Clive is a prize moron. What did he expect was going to happen?

As for the FFA I think they have to accept that 9 teams is a saturation point for them for at least the next 5 - 10 years. No doubt Western Sydney will be pushed to come in next season but I don’t see that working.

Its a long way from over yet. Palmer and Lowy are gonna have a legal p!ssing contest for the ages. BIG ego's. If Palmers Ego was a person and stood next to him, Palmer would look like Kate Moss.

So, West Sydney or Canberra for the next team?

Canberra have everything in place. A solid, professional bid. Corporate support, government support, 2,000 paid up members (without any guarantee of a team I might add).

So no doubt the Incompetent FFA will again ignore the many merits of a Canberra team and push for Western Sydney despite there being no bid and no funding secured in the region.

A Canberra team would succeed, but the FFA's hard-on for Western Sydney means we'll never be considered.

Hold up... aren't you against the inclusion of the Bears, who have all the same measures in place at NRL level?

Hypocrite.

@Hybrid. The only reason they gave GCU a license was because the path of the NRL/AFL included Gold Coast. It was never a good bid to begin with now we're back to that NSL season where Adelaide came in with a few rounds to go after western pride or whatever that abomination was that got booted.

They should have had two Melbourne teams from the start. A western Sydney team will fail as well, they can't even support the current SFC team.

Buckley and Lowy need to GTFO

Don't rule out Western Sydney because Sydney FC are a pack of soulless, wannabe merkins.

You missed the point all together smh

How did I miss the point? People drag out the tired excuse that because people don't like Sydney FC they won't like a WS team. FC pissed off the NSL clubs in every possible way, have no connection to the grassroots and have never tried to seriously represent WS unless they could make some cash out of it.

If a team was done properly in WS it would be way bigger than FC. It's where all the best players come from ffs.

Canberra should be the next team in though so as not to rush WS in.

I haven't followed A-League in about 4 years, but I've been saying since day 1, GIVE TASMANIA A GO! Hobart can be the base with 3 or 4 matches a year taken up to Launceston. They are shunned by all sports, give them a team and they will embrace it, they'll easily get higher average crowds than Gold Coast...

Was thinking that. Except it's closer to 7000 members.

Wonder if South Coast are still a shot. Similar to Canberra except we've produced a whole bunch of players as well.

My only real issue with the inclusion of the Bears is that it's adding another team to an already over-saturated area.

If you can point out the A-League teams in Canberra that would make a Canberra team overkill for the area, you may have a point.

But as usual, you've gone for the hail mary and failed spectacularly.

theres 9 teams in sydney and a team in newcastle. so theres a saturated market there for the bears.

to bring in the bears would be to contradict the "too many teams in " argument. (of which i do not agree. however wether the bears come in or not remains to be seen)

They might have the "same criteria (members, support, initial funding)" but its completely different set of circumstances.

Canberra may eventually have a team. they had a good bid at the time. it was passed over for the non existant rovers and whoever the f**k else. Fury maybe? i cant remember.

theres a market for football in the ACT. big player numbers in the area.
however i would be skeptical of the long term success of the club given the cosmos..the nature of canberra fans and the lack of corporate money in the town and ability to attract big name players.

the club would have to do a hell of alot of community engagement and be set up to succeed. which i doubt will happen because its the FFA.

Meh, GC were a zombified husk for a while now. Good riddance.

From a demographic perspective, West Sydney is the most lucrative possible location for a new venture. It has the population, a strong cultural interest in the game, the potential corporate backing, the facilities, the junior participation and the possibility of a local rivalry all heavily stacked in its favor. Tasmania and Canberra aren't half as strong in any of those factors.

What they don't have is a bid, but are there any bids crying out for inclusion at this point? Canberra and Tassie were pretty well organised last time around, but I would have thought the momentum would have stopped when they were rejected. Getting a viable West Sydney bid up and running seems as likely as one of the other bids restarting at this point.

Might just be my wishful thinking. I'd love a summer footy code to follow in my area.

Canberra's bid is still alive. There's an article in the Canberra Times today where they state that they're ready to go next season to keep the A League at 10 teams.

Given the complete lack of other bids at the moment, it would be scandalous for the FFA to ignore us again.
