I must admit I absolutely hated Golden Point. It was to me artificial - there seemed nothing wrong with a draw. I cite the Warriors come from behind draw with the Dogs two/three years ago as an example of a magnificent draw.
Until the Warriors played Souths last year. "THAT" field goal by Stacey Jones was unfreakin believable. It opened another chapter in the Stacey Jones Warriors Memoires. Something that each Warrior fan is incredibly proud of.
After the game, the euphoria amongst the Warriors fans was amazing at the ground. Okay, so it was Souths, and we should have been disappointed with a 30 all draw. But for 2-3 minutes the heart rate went up an extra notch, the nails took an extra pounding, and we got to see something extra special from a very special player. We left not with the memory of how unenthusiastic they were for the first 50, we left not just with the memories of Iafeta Paleaaesina's 50 metre goal line run to put Toopi under the sticks. We left not just with the memories of Brad Watts carving the Warriors up. We left with a slice of magic that in 80 minutes on normal adrenalin we may not have seen.
I'm sure it would have cut me up if we had of lost, but in hindsight I would have seen a spectacle and Souths would have had to do something special to win it also. Something my hard earned money would have deserved to see.
How good would that Warriors/Bulldogs game (I alluded to at the top) have been if we were allowed to see another 3/4 minutes of end to end dodg' ems? Simply magical.
