f**k Golden Point off altogether. It has NO PLACE in rugby league at all. After 80 mins if the scores are level... IT'S A f**kING DRAW, LEAVE IT THAT WAY. In the finals, 20 minutes of EXTRA TIME should apply, with 2 10 minute halves. NOT GOLDEN POINT, EXTRA TIME! Man the NRL know how to f**k up the game big time, and it's all been happening while Gallop has been in charge!

Do people realise that Golden Point actually exists after the 77th minute? If the scores are level at that nark, and someone pots a FG to put them a point ahead. They recieve from the kickoff, have the slowest set of 6 ever, and kick it dead. Game over.

Those who want golden try, golden 4 points, golden circle jerk or whatever need to remember that.

Should be no 'golden' anything.

In regular season - if scores level - teams get 1 competition point each.

In finals - play extra 20 minutes of 10 minute halves. If still level do another 10 minute section. Then another, etc, etc.

Should just 10 mins. of extra time and golden point if scores are still locked up.

Regular season games shouldn't have extra time.

Agree 100%. Except it should be 10 minutes each way (20 minutes) just like the old days not 10 minutes.

Does everyone remember the 1989 Grand Final - arguarbly the best of all time? That was a fixed 20 minutes extra time and look how great that game was. The Steve Jackson try wouldn't have happened in golden point as Chris O'Sullivan already kicked a field goal in extra time before that.

this was one of giddy up gallop and goes idea like him it should be scraped- whats wrong with a draw during the main season and extra 5 or 10 minutes each way in the finals- if still a draw then golden point.

I don't think it would make much difference, teams would still play for field position and go for the 1point at the first opportunity.

So the team who conceded the field goal can't try a short kickoff, gain possession in good field position and have one set to draw/win the game?

Possibly, yes. I have seen that many times. 90% of times the opposition get it, or they get pinged for the kick not going 10m.

So what you are saying is that if someone scores a FG in golden point, the other mob should get a kick off, and if they get the ball, get 6 tackles?

FMD they have already had 80 minutes, PLUS extra time!

There is no way a finals game should be decided on golden point.

Bring back the regular ten minutes of extra time followed by golden point.

Golden point has been f**ked since day one.

Time to get rid of it out of our game, along with pissweak scrums, the 10 metre rule and tattoos.

It should be golden try extra time. Go for field goals for the entire 10 minutes if you want, but scoring a try will win you the game instantly.

Except if one team kicked 5 field goals before the other team got a try. That'd just get weird

No, No, No.

No F***ing 'golden' anything FFS.

The game is over when time is up. If tied after 80 minutes, play extra 10 each way. If tied after that, play another 10, and so on and so on...

I'm a fan of the NFL playoff system; one team gets possession, if they score, the other team gets a chance to match the score or exceed it (field goal v touchdown+ conversion/try).

Example: Eagles get first possession in extra time; they score a field goal, Lions then get the ball and score a touchdown, Lions win.
Might work so cleanly with the less regimental NRL but might be worth trialling?

No golden point during the regular season. If your side can't beat the opposition inside 80mins, then you don't deserve to walk away with two points. In the finals, I agree we don't want to replay matches like in the AFL, so golden point is the best way to go. Swap ends at the 80min mark, no more interchanges even if you haven't used 10 during the regular time and play till until someone scores. If you can't win inside the 80mins, you don't deserve a right of reply if your opposition slots a field goal or a penalty awarded after a dodgy dive.

I'm wondering now: what exactly was the rule pre-GP for lower grade finals? Some sort of mid-week replay if level after extra time, I suppose.

Regular season

If teams are locked at full-time, then it is a draw and both teams receive one point.

Finals

If teams are locked at full-time, then play a further ten mintues to determine the winner. Regardless of whether a team scores points during this period, it is the team that has the highest score after the ten minutes that wins. If no score is added in the ten minutes, then play golden point.

**SHOULD golden point stay for finals matches then I would like to see the rules changed so that if a team scores with a field goal or penalty goal, the defending team is given one more set of six tackles with the ball.
