Golden Point in finals is dumb

They did that in a Qld Cup Grand Final. 2004, I think, Burleigh eventually won over Easts Tigers... took something like 100 minutes.

I do recall that the ref made the decision not to issue a penalty in extra time, for anything. It was pretty amazing to watch, but not sure if it was a real game towards the end.

Happened in the NSW Cup grand final in 2008. The game went for 104 minutes

What didn't help was neither team could kick field goals.

Here is the game day thread for it.

The problem with GP. Is that teams spend 80 mins going for tries and not scoring field goals. But after 80 mins, they're looking for the easy way out with field goals and not scoring tries.

Scoring tries is the whole point of the game. Even within the 80 mins, field goals looks like the cheapo option.

Personally? I would scrap the option of field goals at any stage of the game. For the value of 1 point, RL doesn't need it.
