Now that there has finally been a golden point Grand Final (and a grumbling coach as a result) I wonder if they'll be looking at changing the rules for next season in classic NRL reactionary style.
On the whole 'boo golden point' thing, I actually enjoy golden point, and considering how rare they actually happen (around 5-10 games out of 201 in a season, 1 out of 13 grand finals), I think the resulting furore is often over-the-top.
People always complain about the field goal deciding a game, when really it's the series of decision & actions (or inactions as the case may be) in the 80 minutes prior that could've stopped a draw in the first place. All the ifs & buts (tackle made/not made, ball held/dropped, penalty kick vs 6 again, kick hitting the post etc).
Having said that, I'd also prefer a 10 minute period of extra time (5 each way), and then if there is no result at the end of that period (hooter / ref whistle) then golden point comes into effect from that point, no stuffing around with coin tosses and kickoffs etc, if a team is in possession near the sticks at that point then lucky them.
