You crack me up westie. You spend half the time complaining about us only needing a halfback to do the basic things and staying out of Farah & Marshall's way, and the rest of the time slathering a guy for doing exactly that when he plays halfback, but suddenly it isn't good enough!
You're right, Moltzen doesn't play a traditional halfback's role. No halfback we've employed over the past 3 seasons has though, and you're quick to point this out when it suits your argument. What he does is provide us with that third option (again, something you're quick to point out we're going to need), and has so far had a hand in a number of tries, line-breaks and other movements resulting in good field position. As for ineffective tackles, well I saw him bring Hayne - only the most dangerous runner of the ball over the past 12 months - down one on one on Friday night around the 25-30 minute mark, but I suppose he missed a couple later on - but he must be the only half in the league that misses tackles!
Is Moltzen going to be a superstar at halfback? No way. Is he going to be able to do the things we wanted Morris or Lui to do on the right-side, not f**k things up and occasionally have a blinder? Absolutely.
It's incredible that you'd be prepared to advocate such superstars as the immortal Benji Reynolds as players you'd want a halfback, because they can kick, pass or run when needed and would be able to stay out of Benji & Robbie's way, but you can't get over your personal dislike of Moltzen and say the same thing for him. The dude might not win us any matches of his own doing, say like Benji, but we don't need that. Again, you admit as much when it suits your argument.
At the end I don't need fancy stats about try assists, line breaks, ineffective tackles or anything else because the only stat that matters is the number of wins we have when he plays in the halves. That speaks for itself.
