I was hinting at depth. Sheens has gone out and looked to get some depth in the backline this year after it screwed us in the past. He's signed some dross like Daneila but it's clearly not his intention to gamble on not getting any injuries all year.

Its a fine line though - guys like Daniella and Brown are 2nd tier footballers even though they are "depth". We don't have the luxury of great footballers playing lowers like Parra have with Inu. Your 2nd string guys are never really going to plug the hole of your top team, just make up the numbers.

He passed the ball. And it went to Marshall? Really? f**k me, I'll call McCarthy and get him fitted out for his Roos suit then. Seriously? You're justifying his performance because he passed the ball the way expected of any first grader? Jesus Christ.

Sublime? The f**king thing was hacked into the in-goal and would have gone dead or been collected if he'd connected properly.

I'd love it if you were coach of this team - I actually think you'd give me a run.

Dunno - what are your stats?

Am I the only one who thought Moltzen looked absolutely out of his depth? The only time he touched the ball in a crucial position, he couldn't even get the grubber through the defensive line. It was like watching a ring-in they'd found in the crowd. Even allowing for the fact that I don't like him, I swear he was awful. Can anyone tell me what he actually did out there? I suppose the one saving grace is that while he did nothing useful, at least he wasn't f**king our sets up not getting us any field position and knocking on simple takes.
Moltzen was average. His game plan was the simplest of simple.

feed the ball to the forwards early, on the 3rd or 4th, dish it to Benji if he calls for it.

3rd choice kicker in open field play.

Defended behind Ellis all night.

Admittedly, it was effective and it allowed Benji to have some room to move. He was still better than Lui.

Yup.. He did what he needed to do...

Can't wait until TNT comes back. This side is too predictable going to the left all the time where Benji/Lawrence and Tequila are. When TNT comes back, he goes to the left and Lote to the right.

Brown didnt do anything wrong on Friday night, but that where we need to slot MR 80% shooter into the team. Now who are the candidates?? I think Meaney from Bret could be the best option although unlikely to happen as he is on a second tier contract or Bret contract and would result in Cap penalties

Apart from kicking the ball away 3 times and not looking like scoring - yeah he was pretty good.

Not to mention letting their back-line movement waltz right past him for the Eels' 2nd try... Although I thought his kicks on the last were not too bad - even got a drop-out off one of them, didn't he?

The question is - why was his number one option to kick every time? It's not happened to any of our other wingers recently.

Not sure who has got the stats but, after 3 rounds, does anyone have the stats to compare Benji's goal kicking with the other clubs kickers in comparison? I'm wondering if the off season tutoring by Taylor has helped raise the bar for Benji or not.

You crack me up westie. You spend half the time complaining about us only needing a halfback to do the basic things and staying out of Farah & Marshall's way, and the rest of the time slathering a guy for doing exactly that when he plays halfback, but suddenly it isn't good enough!

You're right, Moltzen doesn't play a traditional halfback's role. No halfback we've employed over the past 3 seasons has though, and you're quick to point this out when it suits your argument. What he does is provide us with that third option (again, something you're quick to point out we're going to need), and has so far had a hand in a number of tries, line-breaks and other movements resulting in good field position. As for ineffective tackles, well I saw him bring Hayne - only the most dangerous runner of the ball over the past 12 months - down one on one on Friday night around the 25-30 minute mark, but I suppose he missed a couple later on - but he must be the only half in the league that misses tackles!

Is Moltzen going to be a superstar at halfback? No way. Is he going to be able to do the things we wanted Morris or Lui to do on the right-side, not f**k things up and occasionally have a blinder? Absolutely.

It's incredible that you'd be prepared to advocate such superstars as the immortal Benji Reynolds as players you'd want a halfback, because they can kick, pass or run when needed and would be able to stay out of Benji & Robbie's way, but you can't get over your personal dislike of Moltzen and say the same thing for him. The dude might not win us any matches of his own doing, say like Benji, but we don't need that. Again, you admit as much when it suits your argument.

At the end I don't need fancy stats about try assists, line breaks, ineffective tackles or anything else because the only stat that matters is the number of wins we have when he plays in the halves. That speaks for itself.

Benji has made 50% of his kicks. No other kicker is going that bad except Mick Ennis.

THanks - man, that is just not good enough. As I said earlier- in the tail end of the season -the for and against comes into play- every possible point counts. WT need a better goal kicking option.

I believe my point is - he doesn't offer much, especially when things aren't going well. This is when we need a controlling interest and he is the single furthest thing from.

No no, I've always maintained he's sh*te. :) Thankfully every one else is starting to realise he's still a 20s footballer.
