All I know is you definitely don't weaken a strength to strengthen a weakness, don't blame origin for being bigger or try and bring it down in any way.

I don't see what the big deal is, plenty of sports doing very well despite representing your country either not being the high point or even not being an option at all (all american sports and even aussie rules). If anything it just speaks of the fact australia rules the world of rugby league. International competition not being comparable to internal competition like origin. The rest of the world needs to improve before we'll give too much of a shit, its really not our problem.

Representing your country in rugby league is the high point for the majority of players. The only players for whom it is not the high point are the ones that switch countries just to play Origin and get the money.
Most Australian players hold the jersey above their Origin jersey, saying it's the highest honour. And of course every other country has their national jersey as the highest level.

I agree with the point made earlier, who cares if we haven't got a dominant international game - stop trying to flog a dead horse. Celebrate the fact we have an amazing product in state or origin that any sport in the world would be proud of.

If tallis rates his experiences with the kangaroos over the maroons I'm quite happy to disown him.

Then you're an idiot. Representing your country is by far the highest honour.

Let's be honest, it isn't. Yow Yeh represented Australia before he represented Queensland and he said he was 100x more nervous in his first origin.

It may technically be a higher achievement, but the pinnacle of representative football in Australia is SoO

Easy obvious fix to that is don't force origin players to play for australia.

this guy knows. The only way people are going to care more about Int footy than Origin is by strengthening the competition. Mateo and Moi Moi should be able to play for Tonga, Uate for Fiji, Tamou for NZ. If that means guys like Marshall and SBW can now play origin, then so be it, I don't think it would hurt origin. But it would definitely help international competition.

That may fly within Australia but I can assure you that outside of Australia where people love league (and SOO) as much as Australians do it is discouraging to witness the apathy of Australia towards developing international league.

Celebrate SOO by all means but remember that it is inaccessible for many and they deserve to participate in high level league also.

Hope that made some sense...:?

And Civo, Smith, Lockyer, Lewis, etc etc who have all said similar in the past?

There wouldnt be many left in the Qld hall of fame if you had your way

Australia plays New Zealand in Canberra on Friday night but the Sydney media is dominated by talk about who will be the halves for NSW in Origin.
I like the way Gordon has put the blame squarely on the shoulders on the Sydney media.......the rats and filth of the RL world.

I think the thread title says it all ......Gordon Tallis is so right

Forcing them to play either for state of origin or for their home country has been detrimental to international rugby league.

There are people who have strong enough connections to both to warrant playing for both yet they've been forced to choose. Of course they're going to choose the one that generates millions of dollars and massive ratings instead of the one where they don't even know if they'll get a game that year...
