Gordon threatens to leave Panthers

Tahu at his best was without question a SOO level player and i wouldn't be surprised if we see Mullen back there at some point.

Regardless though i was merely reminding the people saying that Gordon is a SOO level player that Coote was recieving similar praise when he was at fullback.

When the Panthers were near the top of the ladder a few years back it was mostly on the back of Coote.

I'm not saying he is on the same level as Gordon i'm merely questioning whether the best option for the team involves dumping Coote altogether (which would pretty much happen to make way for Gordon).

Yeah mate I was referring to his last foray into the NSW team. He should never have been picked on the form he showed.

I don't think they'll keep Gordon. If you are going to the coach and saying you want to play a different position you are pretty much saying that you know better than him. And that won't work in a team environment. I remember when Mundine said he had to play five eight for saints. Didn't go down to well with others.
Gordon will ask for big money in his next deal and he has shown his hand as being a bit high maintenance. Might not be worth the trouble if Cleary can find another option.

Pfft. Always smelled like a beatup. How the f*ck would we know what Gordon is thinking if the media doesnt know?

Penrith have had personnel issues in the recent past with Jennings, Petero etc. Gus has stirred to pot even more - and to get something different from a club with the talent that Penrith has, Gus had to. Player grumbling in the early phases is normal. Gus likes to put his stamp on things when he comes into power. In various Origin camps its been MG, Elias or Joey that Gus has ripped into. That doesnt mean Gordon is going anywhere. What it does mean is that Gordon (being what - 27?) is a senior player and has a right to discuss his situation with a new coach.

Those using that as proof that he is giving the club an ultimatum need to give themselves a triple.

Does anyone actually believe that Coote can make it as a genuine half? Surely not.

I think Penrith need to make a call. Coote or Gordon at #1 and allow the other to either find a spot at wing or centre and be happy there, or let them go. Both are tremendous fullbacks, and i dont see either of them being good halves

This is a classic example of why i wish the NRL had trades... You dont think Penrith would pull the trigger to move one of these blokes to get a player of need back in return under these circumstances?

There are trades, see Michael Bani for Ben Farrar. However, they will never get fair value for Coote or Gordon, because they would want to sign somewhere else and would block all trades.

Didnt Coote keep Dugan out of all the junior rep sides? Wonder what happened to him? Injuries I spose.

Trades would be fecking awesome, we could have a deadline period like they do in the EPL or something, it'd make for high drama and would be very entertaining.

Cleary has had an okay time juggling fullbacks...

i think he had Brent Webb originally and decided it was better to spend less money on bringing in Wade Mckinnon than to reign Webb... and Mckinnon was a real success at the warriors... especially early on.

Then he moved Hohaia to fullback... and Hohaia took the chance with both hands and really went well in Mckinnon's absence... he ended up outlasting Mckinnon.

Then he managed a young Kevin Locke... im not too sure how successful though... he may have been able to bring Locke in earlier... and he also had Glen Fisiahi on the books...

i think Penrith's fullback issues are nothing to what he's dealt with previously...

Nothing stopping clubs from trading with one another. It's just very difficult to implement as you need all parties to agree, that being both clubs and the players involved, to such trades and that's unlikely to happen. There's probably a club could improve their roster with Coote, but is it worth sacrificing one of their better players that Penrith want to get him. And what if neither player want to go to those respective clubs. It's tough s**t.

When Coote was fit he carried the panthers to the top of the ladder. Everyone seems to have forgotten how dangerous he was since he has been injured.

He created an incredible amount of tries, was safe under the high ball and chips in with the kicking game. If anything when he was fit he was performing better than Dugan.

Well, if trades were to happen, who would Penrith fans trade? Gordon or Coote? Who would they like in return? (being realistic)

I would keep Flash. He's just capable of so much more then Coote and even with his career nearing its end, if he has 3 years left in him IMO they'll be much better then what Coote would offer for those 3 years... and by the team he's due for retirement we'll surely have someone else ready to go.

Although in all honesty I think the best thing for the team is converting Coote into a 5/8 and partnering him up with Harry Siejka. Travis Burns for hooker or utility, and Luke Walsh playing reserve grade. Not that it's going to happen. For some reason it doesn't seem to bother coaches that Walsh has only one trick up his sleeve... and without Coote there to pounce on his kicks that one trick isn't even that good.

The only time Coote is more dangerous then Flash is when we put in an attacking kick in the opposition 20. He can still chase those kicks from 5/8 when Harry puts them in. Best of both worlds IMO.

You simply can not have 2 quality fullbacks in a First Grade squad with a Salary Cap in place.

Someone at Penrith needs to make a tough call. I would keep Gordon for 3 years and release Coote. In 3 years time Dallin Watene Zelezniak will be ready for the First Grade fullback spot ;)

that wasnt a trade, it was a f**king mugging. Farrer for Bani... dayligth robbery.

Coote got ahead of him because in our system we had no halves that had developed, and duges got moved to 5/8th, which he looked terrible at in faireness, since inception of U20's he's gone back to fullback and he been ahead of coote since. Not a slight on coote, he's a superstar in the making. Heart as big as Pharlap too.
