Coote got ahead of him because in our system we had no halves that had developed, and duges got moved to 5/8th, which he looked terrible at in faireness, since inception of U20's he's gone back to fullback and he been ahead of coote since. Not a slight on coote, he's a superstar in the making. Heart as big as Pharlap too.

Hang on, didn't Coote push Dugan to the centres in the NSW U18s team that year?

Well, if trades were to happen, who would Penrith fans trade? Gordon or Coote? Who would they like in return? (being realistic)

Good question atm Gordon's more valuble.

However Gordon's 29. Coote 22. Gordon has had 2 major injuries in 3 years. Coote's suffered from osteopubis for the last 2 seasons but that should be fixed with the post season operation.

I have doubts over how well Gordon will comeback given ACL's take 18months to get back 100%. I am trying to think over someone to prove that theory wrong. Then you have what happened to Campese comes back & other leg muscles injure. Same can be said about Coote & his size.

i fully support gordons stance 100% .Under elliott he never got a real chance to shine. This could be his last contract coming up and he deserves more than 220k.Upgrading him will not cost that much .We must be well under the cap and have just got a new major sponsor

Like I posted on the Panthers board, if it is true that he has said this, then he is effectively holding the team to ransom for more cash. Don't let your ass hit the door on the way out, Fla$h.

Penrith can and will keep both with Coote being the primary Fullback until he is competient at 6. Next year the new TV deal comes into play and suddenly Gordon will be on $1.2M over 3 years without blowing the Penrith bank balance

This always happens with new coaches. Someone always gets off side early on. Both Gould & Cleary are to experienced for this rubbish. Gould sorted Joey out at Origin. Cleary sorted out Inu's ego not mention dropped Hohaia so I have no doubt he will do best for the team. That's all I want is a strong club.

One of my favourite players but i dont care if he leaves now.
Gordon rubbished the report on twitter so I dont know why you are getting your nickers in a knot. Remember it was the Telecrap that reported it

Im not "getting my knickers in a knot". Just saying i dont care if he goes, I would rather him stay but i dont wanna see us break the bank for a 30yo thats had two big injuries recently.

He can rubbish what he wants but he isnt gonna stick around and play wing for us, he knows his window is fading and he wants to get paid.

I think it's obvious to see that we won't have both Coote and Gordon in 2013.

If Gordon didn't complain Cleary would likely take the easy option and Gordon'd be thrown on the wing and wouldn't be able to negotiate a fullbacks wage next year and would be stuck at a value which he's not worth. It seems selfish but it's the right thing to do. Gordon is now a fullback and any time spent on the wing is so that they can find a position for another talented player.

They are both great fullbacks and both offer something different to the team. But Coote is very injury prone, whereas Gordon until last year had missed very little time due to injury. I think that may be the deciding factor.

If we lose Gordon we lose a gun ball runner and a gun goal kicker. I don't see why this is such a hard decision to make. Put him in the centres, up his contract. Simple. Alternatively, get Coote in the halves (we apparently need one who runs the ball anyway) and play Gordon at fullback. We then have a great back up fullback should one get injured.

He sells tickets, he's a good player, he can score more points than anyone else in the league (as he did in 2010). Just get him more involved and give him more money.

have a sook gordon.......

coote clearly is the better potential-wise. i think he'll be a rep player if he can keep injury free. i do like gordon as well but why would you be held to ransom by someone towards the back end of their career and lose someone who'll be a damn good player in a few years

I didnt realise Gordon was that old

I understand his demands now, he's probably only got one contract in him before retirement, and he needs to make sure its a good one to set him up for life after footy, he probably doesnt have a lot to fall back on education wise, or money wise given he'd probably been a scrapper on min wage most of his career

Pretty funny that there are still people posting like this is a real story.

He may not have given that ultimatum but he may as well have. His manager said he will be marketed as a FB which means if he isnt playing FB for us then it would be a stupid for us to pay him what he is worth and have him on the wing.

But that's obvious to anyone that's watched him play over the last couple of seasons. The demand that he play fullback is something the papers inserted though. I get the sense that Gordon would be willing to play anywhere (otherwise he wouldn't have resigned in 2010), but in his next contract there'll be people willing to pay him "star fullback money", so we'll have to match that or we'll lose him. That isn't news and it isn't Gordon throwing his toys out of the cot either.

2008 NSW U18s. So far the backs have been considerably more successful than the forwards.
Lachlan Coote
Matthew Wright
Jarrod Croker
Josh Dugan
Peter Mata'utia
Albert Kelly
Wade Graham
Mitchell Johnson
Liam Higgins
Tom Hancock
Tim Auremi
Dominic Walsh
Matthew Mundine
