Gus Gould is quickly losing a lot of credibility.
Sure, I can understand his comments about junior development, creating pathways, having all coaching & management positions in the club accountable etc as after all some of where the Panthers are right now (in the sense that around 70-80% of their squad at the moment is homegrown talent) can be attributed to his influence and setting these areas on the correct path.
But we are also talking about the guy who had a hand in sacking two coaches in recent years, when those coaches had their teams performing at a reasonable level and making finals appearances (ironically one of those coaches he sacked is now back in the job he lost).
There will never be any comments by him about the "review" on our club because there was none, despite this process constantly being labeled by our spin doctors as some sort of "formality".
While I agree that our board has a hell of a lot to answer for, I am resigned to the fact that they are not going anywhere and that we probably need to just get over it. If there is any sort of "succession planning" going on within our entity, you can bet that each board member has a plan in place for whom their successors will be for the next 3-5 generations (forget about 3-5 year success plans, premiership windows & subsequent recruitment, retention + junior pathways programs to get us there). Yes, it stinks to high heaven!
Got to admit that I was concerned the moment that the Warriors sacked Kearney. This concern has grown even further now that Seibold is under massive pressure at the Broncos. Again, we are going to be left with uncertainty once the dominoes fall. McGregor should have been gone after the Bulldogs debacle three weeks ago (if not long before that).
Quite frankly, if the intent is for McGregor to see out his contract in its entirety, then the board should act now and say that we're not renewing beyond 2021. Not the most ideal outcome, but it brings some level of certainty back to the stakeholders that action is being taken. It may even force McGregor to walk early on his own accord (even if that ends up being six weeks or so into 2021).
P.S. If Fitzgibbon is (as being touted by the media) "the highest paid assistant in the game", then why would he leave the Roosters to go to a basket case like the Warriors or Dragons? Food for thought...
