Grade 1 Suspensions should be deferrable

It wasn't deliberate. It was the start of a fend but McQueen(?) was on top of him quickly. Try doing a fend motion off to your side and look at how your arm moves and compare it to the contact JWH made. He deserves a suspension because he was careless but it wasn't deliberate

Common , you cannot be serious. This could be a defence for ALL future deliberate raised elbows. lol
Also if you consider the dynamics of movement , his elbow was raised so high at the head , that any resulting straightening of the arm to allow a fend would have gone over McQueen's head. Reduced power by dropping the fend from that point. Try it.

There was a reason why it took only 5 minutes to throw out the appeal. Because it was opportunistic and RIDICULOUS to have fought the charge and showed NO respect for the spirit of the game.Should have been punished with a raise to Grade 2.

I think this idea has merit.

Maybe they should be able to defer more parts of the game.
Teams maybe should have 1 deferred penalty option per game.
Like... say your team gives away a stupid penalty on the 5th tackle right in front of the posts.
Just a penalty for holding down though...not foul play of course.
The team receiving the penalty needs to kick the penalty goal to win the game.
If you still have your 1 deferred option you say to the ref...
"Hey ref ....we'd like to exercise our 1 deferred option rule now please".
ref says into microphone (so the crowd can hear) something like... " Roosters have elected to defer this penalty to a later date. Penalty reversed...that was tackle 5 ...change over ...roosters ball".

Probably work when losing games as well.
Hey ref ..."we'd like to defer this loss to a game at another date"

It is brilliant.
Could you defer your wins too? Say Parra deferred all their wins from 2012 to 2013, they would have finished in 10th place with 11 wins. Much better!

Probably.
Maybe you should be able to pre date losses as well.

100 points = 1 week suspended, right?

Why don't they make it...

100 pts = 1 regular season game
150 pts = 1 finals match
200 pts = 1 GF/rep match

This idea is no stupider that having a judiciary process that doesn't recognise or allow its own rulings to be used in hearings unless they result in a charge.

You want ludicrous, try wrapping your minds around that.

Rules should be the same.

If you are arguing about the way the judiciary is managed then you might have some friends here, but punishment dealt should not be changed for any game.

100% agree. A charge is a charge and any punishment should count for the next possible games, although I'd exclude trial matches, that facet of suspensions is a joke.

But anyone with an ounce of nouse must call into question a judiciary process that refuses to allow reference to one of its own rulings = re-tard-ed!

Chook.

I've been favour of it for a while. we can argue the finals/rep games shouldnt be seen any differently but they are, and they're also reffed differently.

a few years ago Luke lewis missed an origin game (?) due to loading of something a year or so earlier. the high tackle he got charged with before origin was the lowest grading but it was carry over points form something 12 months over which saw him missed origin. he shouldnt have missed a big game for something minor

if you do something serious then by all means you should miss games reagrdless of them being finals or rep games

I'd prefer it if the NRL didn't do BS charges. How does an accidental elbow cop a ban, yet kicking a player on the ground and eyegouging doesn't?

Yes, he doesn't deserve to miss a finals game over this. Bit easier to stomach if just a premiership game.

With all due respect, I think its a ridiculous idea.

It would open up a minefield of complications.

Do the crime, do the time, Tough shit JWH. Other players have had it done to them before and more will in the future.

Players should not go into a finals game with the mindset that they can foul another player and get away with it "because its a final". Rubbish.

Repeat dickhead offenders like JWH should have their careers deferred until 2020. Have a rest, come back and see if you've matured.

JWH was lucky to get a grade one tbh. I reckon if he did something like that in an earlier round he'd have copped a grade two as a minimum. I think the MRC were very leniant.

If they're going to up the points value of big games, trials need to be banned from counting towards suspensions. Otherwise a player can cop a ban in Round 26, play all the finals matches because they're worth more and then sit out a trial the following season and be sweet to play in Round 1.

It sucks that a minor offence can make a player miss a big game. But it's even worse that players can huge suspensions (like Graham did) and then have a few games knocked off before the season stars due to trials.

No, not really.

That grub does it no matter what round. Finals are not a factor for that big dumb lump. He'll foul whether its round 1 or the GF!

I can't recall seeing a player who is so consistently grubby. Week in week out he's at it.

I think we all accept that finals games, especially a Grand Final is worth more than just a normal Home & Away game so I don't think it ever sits well with the majority of league fans when someone misses out on a big game for a minor suspension.

I think we should allow for players to defer, at the least, Grade 1 suspensions for finals games and possibly even Grade 2 charges as well. Obviously these suspensions would kick in the following season.

Thoughts?
