how can you have a marker if you are right on the line? there can be 4 people right in front of you, so is the NRL saying you can have 4 markers if it is next to the line?

If you want to take that context, then its obstruction anyway. Regardless of whether he's a marker or a defender you can't hold him back from attempting to make a tackle.

No try.

McKinnon only advanced because Ridell pushed him. And he put his hands in the air!

As I said, there is no marker on the tryline. So how could a 'marker' have been impeded? It's like trying to buy pics of Cronulla's premiership trophies on Ebay.

It doesn't matter how McKinnon got into the position of pushing Bowen. Riddell plays for Parramatta, so if he's pushed him, that's Parramatta's problem.

It doesn't matter that there's no markers on the line, Matt Bowen is still a defender, just like you can't obstruct or hold or push a defender 4 wide of the ruck you can't obstruct or hold or push a defender at the centre of the ruck.

What about the others that Riddell carried over the line..Cowboys had a opportunity to stop him short of the line

It doesn't matter.

You're entitled to have a chance to defend with your full complement of players. North Queensland were denied that opportunity. Its irrespective of how many players are taken out, one was taken out, thats enough - penalty and no try.

It's ironic that you of all people would call someone a fool.

Watch it in fast motion and Wade barely touched him. You're kidding if you think Matty Bowen didn't intentionally go for Wade instead of Riddell, he's not stupid and would know how strict the video refs are.

But that's the way she goes, if our fowards had some balls then we may have won but they're a pack of pussies (Hindy and Riddell excluded). If we were going to win we'd have done it without those awful foward pass calls and Graeme West's stupidity costing us.

It doesn't matter if he barely touches him, or performs an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on him.

McKinnon has his hands at the side and stands there, no drama, try. He put his arm out, possibly as a reflex action, but inevitably it halted Bowen from potentially defending the try.

Chuck, Wade did nothing. Ridell pushed him forward.

Funny how Bowen still made the tackle!!!!!

Wade McKinnon is the first person in 99 years of Rugby League in Australia to be penalised for existing.

Well then Riddell has used the marker as an obstruction, hasn't he?

Rolling mauls are part of rugby union, not rugby league.

And where was Wade supposed to go, standing still, to the left,to the right some defender would of have been impeded

Its not necessarily where he goes, although his technical obligation is to either stand still or get out of the defender's way. Its a matter of his arm preventing Bowen from getting around to try and attempt to tackle Riddell.

Stand still, not use his arms, try time.

when Thurston walked/ran off the mark Hindmarsh was penalised for tackling him.

inconsistent rulings

It was Matt Sing.

50/50 call that one. Technically again correct, he's called held. If Sing had made another couple of metres then its a penalty against him I'd suspect, but he hadn't really gone anywhere quick so its hard to assume where he was going - for all the ref knew he was getting up for a quick play of the ball and thats how he ruled it.

It doesn't matter whether you consider the player a marker, or a defender, you're not allowed to obstruct/impede either of them.

Fair decision. You have no right pushing into the marker defender after playing the ball. He gave Bowen no chance of making a tackle. Irrespective of whether he could have or not, he was denied the possibility through illegal play.

No try.

On that bowen moved forward into wade.....

Lets watch all the games tonight and see how many times the marker is impeded in the play the ball and how many times it is penalised....

No.

Stand still, do nothing, as is your obligation, and its a try.

I could be wrong here but...

I don't think you are allowed to touch the man playing the ball when attempting to go from dummy half Furthermore the man playing the ball cannot put his hands out to touch the marker Riddell clearer touched mckinnon on the back and then Mckinnon put his arms out to touch the marker.

Fair enough call under the rules. No try on two counts.

I remember Canberra blowing up delux about a Farah try last season which should of been a no try. Farah touched the marker.

That is the exact rule..and a good one also...
if the only way you can score a try is by a flukey dive over from dummy half using your own playre as a shepherd, then you should at least make it a clean dive without touching your own player.
This will encourage passing movements at the try line and would also prevent the usual multiple views from the video ref everytime there is a dummy half dive over type try with 10 defenders on him.

How is he ment to "scoot" and dive for the line then?? he went to the right of the guy playing the ball and he didnt go under his legs so i'd say that rule is ok.. holding a player back is a penalty, which it was...

Incase you're unaware, the defender is allowed to move forward in an attempt to make a defensive play.

Do you honestly think defenders sit back on their line and don't move forward?

Irrespective of his movements, the penalty was as a result of McKinnon putting his arm out, thats the difference, it showed some form of intent. If he stood there, did nothing, nothing wrong - try time.
