I didn't say he was shitty
I said he was random
Which in terms of picking someone to play at a NRL GF ...he is.
Maybe Greenberg got his wires crossed and ordered a Macklemore instead o Fleetwood mac.

No but he is shitty. I said that bit.

He's not that random. Charted in Australia, would have been plenty of NRL fans involved in that.

Anyway I think the outrage is ridiculous. He's shit, but he's relevant for some reason

Rings a bell, but i could not name a song.

That's the thing, so many people have different taste in music. The Nrl has so many Indigenous, Polynesian even a decent immigrant following, do you expect them to all know these band? It's best to go with someone who has a broad mainstream appeal and mackelmore fits the bill, even if i don't personally like him

Seriously ...if you haven't heard of You Am I I doubt talking music is your go.

They're only one of the greatest bands to ever come out of Australia
They set the record for the most Aria awards from 1 year.
They've even played at an NRL grand final with the awesome indigenous artist dan sultan.
They played a sold out show last night at the metro in Sydney.

Gave them a Google. Their highest ranking single got to a whopping 28th on the charts.

Meanwhile Mackelmore's current single is sitting 3rd at the moment

Ha
Gangman style probably had a number 1 as well.

You am I had a song come in at 52 in the hottest 100 of all time.

Higher than
The Beatles
The stones
Bowie
Led zep
Pink floyd
Nirvana ...just to name a few.

Not bad for a little band from Sydney.

You need to think of this from a marketing POV, not what music you like

If all everyone wants is to have a band performing that they like, then you'd be hard pressed to please everyone

It's not about you, it's about the occasion and selling the game. Not everyone will like the performers at the super bowl, but the NFL know how to sell their game and that's why they won't have some no body country music singer that only rednecks in the south will like

Not bad for a band this dude has never heard of though
Higher than some pretty bloody well known songs too might I add.
Like world famous all time classics.

I wonder if Macklemore will get any in next time they do it.

This isn't about what we like. This is about what is marketable. He is much better for that than pearl jam etc. I say this and Pearl Jam, Live, Men at work are among my favourites.

So a radio station that favours australian alt rock has an australian alt rock band in it's top 52 so that means everyone will know who they are and enjoy them?

That's actually the kind of thinking nrl marketers have used for years

Look it up
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100_alltime/countdown/cd_list.htm

It's hardly Australian alt rock.
Far from it in fact.

There is about 5 or 6 Aussies on the list
....and about 3 are what you'd call alt rock at a stretch.

Didn't they sing stones covers at the grand final? That was a weird one.

Yeah it was a strange choice
Start me up
Davey had 5 strings and his guitar tuned to open E or G or some weird shot.
Just like keef ...only way to make it sound right.
Dan sultan sang it.

Not sure why they did that song.

Macklemore is ok from a marketing standpoint which I guess is all that matters.

The fact remains that the music he makes is hot garbage.

Really though, the only ones who should care about who is playing at the grand final should be the advertisers and yer mum

You'll need to read my post in context
I wasn't suggesting they be the pre game entertainment.

I suggested a "now and then of Aussie music "
Get a few new bands and then few older bands who are currently still playing.
YAI and the Oils are.
A song or two each.

Different genres as well
Not just rock n roll.
Maybe a combo finish.

Just keep it Australian and NZ ( no stinking poms of course ) though.

It infuriates me that the NRL think we need to see a seppo act
Why?
I don't get it.
