Yeah, and so does Khe Sahn. Doesn't make it one of the greatest songs ever written.

But because you're a Queen fan your subjectivity gets in the way. There are numerous other songs which can be and are the best of all time, but how objective can a person truly be?

God Only Knows
A Day In The Life
Be My Baby
etc

hrundi99 calling Queen poop is one of the most musically uncorrect statements ive heard since Hanson........

Bullshit.

It seems you don't really understand pop. Pop isn't Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake. Pop is melody and a memorable chorus.

Rock is early Led Zeppelin. AC-DC, etc.

Just in case you're concerned, "pop" is not an insult. It's just a different style of music.

Let's see...here's their original "greatest hits", a brief summary of their biggest and most popular songs.

Bohemian Rhapsody - pop/rock
We Will Rock You - rock
We Are The Champions - pop/rock
Another One Bites The Dust - pop
Killer Queen - pop/rock
Somebody To Love - pop
Fat Bottomed Girls - pop/rock
Bicycle Race - pop
You're My Best Friend - power pop (my favourite song of theirs)
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - pop
Play The Game - pop
Flash - pop/rock
Under Pressure - pop
etc...

Maybe if your over 35 years of age and that's a pretty big maybe.

I cant disagree that if you played 4 or 5 Beatles and Queen albums in a mall the general public would recognize The Beatles songs more so than Queens but to say the average Joe would of heard at least 50 to 70 Beatles songs at least once is absurd.

Absurd?

Hardly...

I think you under-estimate their popularity.

Listen to WSFM and you'll see how long the Beatles playlist is there and they never play anything their demographic hasn't heard before.

Both arguments are off. Those radio station polls are crap. Remember a couple of years ago Eminem came in at #2 in the top 500 ROCK songs of all time! :? Those polls are often filled with new age garbage that people have been jumping on the bandwagon of recently; that said 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is great. But far better than anything else by Queen I've heard IMO.

Beatles are more consistently good, but the general population are mindless idiots and really only people in theor late 20s and beyond who aren't complete trendwhores and have some sense of culture would recognise as many Beatles' songs as hrundi99 is suggesting. I listen to WSFM, I've been exposed to Beatles music from my parents, sister and friends through my life yet I couldn't name any where near 60 songs.

Best band ever is Faith No More, this is gospel, anyone who disagrees is wrong! :p

Queen should've won. The Beatles are very overrated.

This is reflected in such things as Australian Idol having a Beatles night. I can't see them having a Queen night any time soon.
Reason: Australian Idol and beatles are both shithouse ... they go together very well!

PS: I'm not normally so forward with such comments or opinions, but the beatles really make my blood boil.

Both are great bands - I voted for Queen out of personal preference but I fully understand why the Beatles won...if there was no Beatles there wouldn't have been a Queen as we know it. I've seen footage in documentaries and stuff where Brian May categorically says that a lot of the stuff they did in the studio was influenced by what the Beatles did...and it's fair enough. I think the only thing that counts against the Beatles (and heavily in Queens favour) is live performances (the Beatles didn't perform live in their last 5 years or so did they?). There's not many bands in Queens league when it comes to live large stadium rock entertainment. The Rolling Stones, The Who, AC/DC, Pink Floyd...maybe Zeppelin. Certainly not the Beatles. Queen were in their own right pioneers when it came to live shows (yes, Floyd etc did the big light shows before them, but Queen took it to a new level).

On the Idol thing, while I doubt there'd ever be a Queen night I wouldn't say it'd be impossible. American Idol had a Barry Manilow night lol.

Honestly, I don't know. They really do just infuriate me more than just about anything on the planet. It's just the way it is with me!
