Saweet. Does anyone know the AFL ratings? I'm actually starting to get a bit optimistic for a billion dollar deal (if Perth comes in).

Cheers Thommo, missed that. Nudges us ahead of the AFL GF, which got 2.6 mil across Australia.

The other little tid bit was David Gyngell thinking of doing U20s GF on Saturday (the day before) - this could also draw at minimum 2m (factoring in regionals).

I'm surprised the GF enetertainment rated at all. Ch 9 ruined it with commercial after commercial. As soon as the retiring players went of stage it was straight to an ad.

That seems pretty unlikely since this was the U20s ratings:
24 Rugby League Grand Final U21 Nine 352,000 253,000 *** 100,000 *** *** (was also on Fox live)

Unlikely to get 2m that is.

Great ratings for NSW Cup in Sydney.

It smashed the AFL GF Sydney ratings from the day before and was in a far worse timeslot.

League officials need to get their arse into gear and package the NSW Cup into a comp that will demand regular live TV coverage and gain decent sponsorship.

People will watch, especially with teams such as the Bears, Jets, Steelers ect involved.

I was surprised to see that, the NSW Cup GF outrated the Toyota Cup Grand Final.

Properly promoted, national audience + regionals = you're probably right.

That number would double especially considering regionals make up a large amount of viewiership. It's strange that AFL doesn't get the same sort of gain. I guess many of the large regional centres are in QLD and NSW..

Extracted from wikipedia - thanks!!!!

Since the NRL doesn't want to do Saturday afternoon, I wonder if a NSW/QLD cup game on ONE at 3pm would work?

Also 350k in Melbourne without the Storm even playing.

Actually, those ratings only take into account the Ch 9 telecast.

FOX Sports 2/2HD did broadcast the Toyota Cup GF live, so we'd probably need those ratings for an accurate picture. Plenty of people would want to watch it in HD given the preference.

It would for sure.

The ABC live at 2pm would also be good.

They could still show the club union at 3.45pm on delay.

This is what used to happen in QLD with the QLD Cup and the Club union straight after.

Good point.

We watched the Fox Sports coverage and I'm sure a lot of other footy fans did as well considering there were no ads.

Two non NSW teams as well.

So much potential for these non-NRL comps.
