Great Club Cronulla - Aren't They?

I don't understand the point of this thread. Calling them scum?
They are just another NRL club with their problems like all of the other clubs.
I don't like cronulla really and am not a fan of many of their players but calling them scum etc is just poor IMO.
BTW many of the above points apply to the Dragons too you know and I wouldn't appreciate the Dragons being called scum for it.

I would like to see a buy out of the St Georges Leagues Club and the same entity buy out the Sharks and all its assets. Let the NRL sell the Sharks license to Perth.

We can then be a 3 x leagues club, 3 x home ground Super Club. As long as the new buyer has deep pockets we will be great again.
I would like to see us buy Cronulla and go back to being just St George Dragons with our juniors being all of St George's and Cronulla's. I would like Illawarra to go back to being Illawarra Steelers with their Juniors. The Sharks licence could be transferred to Perth or Adelaide.

Illawarra Steelers could make it as a stand alone and could not pay their way when partnered with St George. They could not stand alone even with WIN supporting them.

I like the idea of a Super Club and think it would help with membership and revenue if we owned the 3 leagues clubs and 3 grounds.

Hmmm:

1. Flanagan and his association with Stephen Dank with 12 players admitting guilt.

2. Flanagan's subsequent ban and now disqualification (can we never again have a Flanagan for coach thread).

3. Numerous (as in many more than one) breaches of the salary cap.

4. A club that is "technically" broke and supported by the NRL.

5. A club that has been the preferred destination for a slew of questionable characters including Gallen, Bird, Fafita, Ennis, Barba and Dugan.

You start to query the validity of their 2016 premiership. How far over salary cap were they in 2016? And despite knowing they are over the salary cap they go and sign Shaun Johnson showing scant regard for the NRL processes. Time to hit these clowns really hard because they are virtually giving the NRL the middle finger every year.

Great Club Cronulla - Aren't They?

7. They stir Rob right the f**k up.

Paid back the NRL loans yet, Rob? Signed anymore violent offenders from their prison cell? Existed as a stand alone club since '99? Coach still drink driving?

Throwing shit at RL clubs is simpler than OP.

Maybe Bruce Gordon and co would be able to fund a stand alone Illawarra?

I prefer the idea of a stand alone St George Dragons, playing all of their club games at Kogarah (unless we decide to play a game in the country or at the SFS)

Mmm nice cogent argument here, except:

1) Dragons repaid their loans in August 2018

2) Entire sharks team banned from a venue in their district

3) Then Chairmen of Sharks arrested for Cocaine possession

4) Sharks player charged with drink driving in March 2016

5) Only reason club captain and club legend Paul Gallen was not charged with assault was that his reckless assault on Anthony Laffranchi in 2008 happened on a football field. That behaviour on the street would have resulted in a charge.

6) Majority of players suspended for performance enhancing drugs

There's a legal principle of clean hands; the Sharks clearly do not have them to throw around your assertions as your breaches are as bad or worse.

So only position you have represented that is correct is we have not been a stand alone club since 1999.

You know what that's worked out pretty well. We are financially stable, we have two great picturesque home grounds that fill up with passionate supporters and I get to watch some home games next to a beautiful beach in Wollongong.

You know what, that's a hardship I am willing to suffer through, particularly as I eat some delicious sliced and battered flake before the game. (That reference might too subtle for you but I am sure Google can help)

Can't support yourselves without NRL handouts, how you gonna foot our bills?

Hmmm

Dragons - Debt repaid? Check
Dragons - Smart enough to borrow from NRL without paying interest? Check
Dragons - jersey sponsor? Check
Dragons - salary cap compliant? Check?
Dragons - Rich Leagues Club with no debt and asset rich? Check
Dragons - Billionaire owner of 50% of club? Check
Dragons - Received higher payments from NRL due to willingness to merge? Check

Sharks - Debt repaid? No (btw your debt is to our major sponsor so thanks for helping to fund our team)
Sharks - Smart enough to borrow from NRL without paying interest? No (See above, thanks again for helping fund our club we welcome your patronage and look forward to future contributions towards our financial stability)
Sharks - Jersey sponsor? No
Sharks - Salary Cap Compliant? No
Sharks - Rich leagues club with no debt? No
Sharks - Billionaire owner? No
Sharks - Received higher payments from NRL due to willingness to merge? No

Seems to me we would foot the bills of the Sharks through diligent management and normal commercial business which since 1999 has seen our financial position improve and has seen the Sharks get worse. Something like:

1) Approach the NRL and say we are happy to take the Sharks off their hands and remove the embarrassment on the game.

2) Obtain loan funding from NRL based on a structured business plan and a history of repaying debt rather than simply making it larger.

3) Seek dispensation for salary cap problems again based on demonstrating history from previous merger of being able to manage salary cap problems from merger of clubs.

4) Negotiate a deal with our major sponsor to pay out your debts,

5) Add a small text of CSFC in black to the back of our jerseys just below the collar (see the Swans jersey where they have SMFC as a reference)

6) Schedule a third of our games in Cronulla and apply rigour and structure to repay debt.

7) Sack Paul Gallen

8) Give Dugan back a nice Red and White Jersey and support environment that doesn't load up his mental issues and cause him to have a break down

9) Sell the old Sizzler site in Kogarah to realise capital

10) Increase equity ownership of redevelopment of land in the shire

11) Rake in money from redevelopment due to redued debt and increased euity on development

12) Build a bespoke league stadium at Dragon Park in the shire that seats 25,000

That is the simple model of how we afford to foot your bill.

this is the greatest thread, about the greatest club.
we have become the elite heel of the league. winning games, cheatn away. rustling jimmies.
signing guys to keep other guys even though we are being investigated

up up Cronulla

The heels tend to sell more merchandise, so this is not a proposal completely lacking in merit. I applaud your out of the box thinking sir!!

Gummie Crooks and should be stripped off premiership.

Every year we hear of cap issues. It just won't go away. Hey NRL perhaps your the real issue as you cannot control or administer the game from a cap perspective.

I couldn't be f**ked reading all that.

I couldn't continue this pointless slanging match (like I said "Throwing shit at RL clubs is simpler than OP." - That might too subtle for you).

I'm glad we bother you so much.

As piss poor as Sharks have been we've never been shit enough to merge. After 78 years and all that glory ya's had to merge, only recently paid up your handouts, are seeking more for your alleged rapist having to stand down, but you dream up ways to buy other clubs? hahaha you merkins would need to blow Greenberg to chip in for hotdog.

Never have never will like the sharpies. This week an old friend from my days at Sydney Water contacted me and his son is challenged. To see what the players have rallied round that kid shows their are players who have a heart, I’m sure that is the norm with most clubs which shows their are good stories about team players.
Credit to all players and teams who put themselves out there to help supporters who love their teams

You posed the point how we could afford it to foot your bill? A structured argument was put forward as to how it could be done. Rather than respond your response is waahhh waahhh wahhhh I can't be bothered reading it and at least we didn't merge.

So you are proud that instead of merging and creating a financially strong club and welcoming more supporters and embracing the future. Your club has sat on its arse and broken the rules of the game and cheated its way to success but at least you are stand alone.

If you take pride in being being a club that implemented a structured drug cheating framework and a structured salary cap cheating framework and that rather than pay debt off has grown its debt, maybe you should look at why no-one wants to merge with you.

Geez.....I would prefer we save our ammunition for the BIGGER CHEATS......
STORM, THE PURPLE CHEATERS
RORTERS, AND STILL RORTING EVERY DAY
THE GRUBS, EXCEPT THEY RORTED AND STILL SUCKED
BRONCOS, EXCEPT THEY ARE LEGAL CHEATS. ONE TEAM TOWN, SANCTIONED BY NRL.

Cronulla deserve some of our ammunition, but the Storm are the ones who should be nuked.

We talk about rejigging the comp and making it more relevant nationally.
In Sydney, a Cronulla relocation would be a real boost to the game.
Perth is an obvious license and maybe Cronulla would be a great fit out there under new ownership and better management.
Second Brisbane Team also makes sense but the Broncs are not the powerhouse they used to be so that may well dilute their ability to win premierships significantly.
But there is one license that I personally would love to see be granted and that is to the Central Coast Bears.
Not only is their bid for a license solid as a rock in every way (Management, Funding, Stadium), but that decision would pay homage to one of the games oldest (foundation) clubs.
It would also go part of the way towards addressing the massive injustice bestowed on Norths in the failed JV with Manly.
It would work and it would add value to the competition.
Just my point of view of course.
