Greatest Defensive Display of all time? *spoilers*

I saw Cronulla smash Parra 25-0 in 1978 or 1979.
Why was it a great defensive display?
Other than Parra were kept scoreless.
Parra had A backline that had Grothe Cronin Ella Glover And Sterling in it.
Think Gary Dowling was fullback and he was no attacking slouch.
Price Gerrard and Hilditch were amongst the forwards.
Only time Parra looked like scoring was when Grothe made one of those 50m and beat 4 player runs.Other than that can't remember Parra making a break in the game.

It would have had to be 1979 as neither Grothe nor Ella played first grade till then.

You'd have to think that both Newtown & Saints defended well in their 1-0 game in 73.

Pfft, that game was an attacking feast. 1982, Round 5, Sunday 28 March 1982, Newtown v Canterbury at Henson Park was a defensive masterpiece. Only game at first grade level to finish nil all.

Found this interesting to watch. Elliot may not be the greatest coach, in fact he is pretty bad in the scheme of things, their is no denying his footy knowledge though. He talks about the Broncos defense, their line speed, technique etc. A very good watch. Interestingly the one thing the Broncos cop it for, line speed which gives up metres he praises them for. Says they sacrifice line speed for a straight defensive with the right technique.

Pretty sure that game was at Orana Park (now Campbelltown Stadium)

So pretty much the defensive tactics of Bennett when coaching the 09-11 Dragons, just less successful (much higher points conceded per game than those dragons sides)

This thread is hilarious.

So the Broncos kept a Storm side missing Billy Slater AND Cooper Cronk to just two tries.

Great game. Congrats.

I would argue that we're able to do that as we have more attacking ability than those Dragons sides

Slightly better attack than the 2010 dragons, slightly worse than 2009.

Either way, your defensive strategy of conceding metres to ensure a structured defensive line is kept is not some new amazing tactic. Its been in tried by NRL sides for years, some with more success, some not.

As a neutral, I was far more impressed with Parra's defensive effort tonight. They seemed to get a few dodgy penalties go against them, had to defend a few sets on the line. Melbourne without cronk and slater pretty much just plodded for a set of six followed by a grubber. Parra had to defend against Marshall, Widdop and dugan in great form, and they really had a hard crack at parra

That idiot ref Ashley Klein gave St George 10 penalties and they still lost:lol:

Well done Parra under a hell of a lot of adversity.

Yep, all Melbourne needed was a couple halves who can throw forward passes and balls over the sideline. How dragons are the worst attacking side in the NRL with those in form halves is beyond me.

Could have been a whole lot better game if the referees didn't think they were playing too
