Shovels Olling...another champion bloke. 'Shovels was a front rower in the Country team I managed in 1981.
I think Graeme would have been a wild bloke in his younger days, but he was a 'born again christian' who spent his quiet time in Country camp reading the Bible.
From memory, Graeme was the first player to admit to using anabolic steroids to build himself up. Another Eel, winger Brad Williams, also was on the 'juice' under doctors supervision. Shovels came back to the Eels from reserve grade at Easts and went on to play for Australia.
No action was taken against either player by the NSWRL. Things were not as tough in those days...

I would say Paul Mares was a halfback in a Prop's body.

Tutored by John Peard...good bomber ;-)
I think I may have said in an earlier post that Paul scored a try in the 1983 GF..Thinking back, I think it was Paul who put up a bomb that Brett Kenny scored from...

Thanks for that Pete. Very much appreciated. I can tell you that Michael Mosely and Terry Leabeater were also some of my favouries as a youngster along with big Geoff Bugden. The "Bookends" were considered too slow and soft at the start of 86 to give Parra a good enough chance to win the comp if i remember correctly..
I was never much of a fan of Mark Bugden who joined the club later though...

Robert Muchmore and Vince Fawcett:roll:

Robert Muchmore holds the club record with 5 tries for the club with Dave Penna and Lyon playing in third grade or u23's

Vince Fawcett played his best game the night we beat the dogs in 95, scoring 2 tries. I can't help but feel that if this guy would of been a legend had he been under the guidence of Warren Ryan or Wayne Bennett.

Buggo (Mark version) scored the try for the Bulldogs in 1984 to stop Parra making it 'yo ho ho four in a row', and my mate Chris Mortimer kicked the winning goal. Bulldogs won 6-4 with the Crow crossing for Parra's try just before half time.

Robert's Favourite Song..sing it gently, don't Fawcett..
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And Robert Muchmore did more than this, he scored five tries....

Danny Crnkovich and Cameron Blair were my faves

Danny Crnkovich remains to this day, the best attacking fullback this club has ever had...
Aah the memories... I was president of the Danny Crnkovich Fan Club (circa 88) and new his mother very well...
Her English was not the best, but she was a very nice lady...

we had a chance to win that game in the last few minutes when Crow and Guru began a attacking raid deep on our own half only for the last pass by David Liddiard being intercepted by Steve O'Brian..had that pass hit Grothes chest it would of been 4 in a row.

Hmmm ... needs more David Woods in these lists.

Should have been one of the all-time greats for the club.

Talent-wise he was as good as any outside back I've ever seen. EVER.

he was a footballer that bloke, he should of played for a Australia had he only suffered half his injuries.
