I couldn't find a thread when I did a search so I might start one. What in your view is the greatest piece of music ever produced? Be it a showtune, a rap song, a piece of classical music, an experimental sound piece or something else.
My pick is Beethoven's Symphony no. 9. In my view, it is the only piece of music that has ever transcended so many obstacles and still remained a much loved piece nearly 200 years later. Class status, intelligence, sophistication, cultural beliefs, religious beliefs, age, era, racial background etc etc has not mattered. It has remained current even now. Technically brilliant yet so simple and powerful. Maybe in 200 years time we will be listening to the Beatles or the Black Eyed Peas or Metallica or someone else. But even then I don't know that it will be as universally accepted. An extraordinary piece.
