This is Mad Season (Layne's supergroup with Mike McCready etc.)

River of Deceit - Probably their most popular song

That remains one of the all-time great albums Mr Fahrenheit, a true masterpiece and possibly the most emotional album I've ever heard.

Salivor, I agree that a band doesn't have to be technically magnificent to be great, but Nirvana were just plain sh*t. I don't mind listening to them occasionally but they offer very little at the end of the day. Boring. Of all the grunge bands of the day, they were right down near the bottom of the list.

However, they did write an 'anthem' of their day and Kurt's death added to their legacy, so there you go - they got popular and became legendary.

So be it.

My favourite vocalists are Robert Plant and Bon Scott.

Plant had an extraordinary range that changed over time - ravaged by the flu on tour and those ridiculous touring schedules Zeppelin had in the early 70s.

His ability to change his range and still bash out a lyric like 'I'm gonna crawl' on In through the Out Door was incredible.

Bon Scott was so underrated as a singer. He had character, humour a great range and great stage presence. Listen to 'Night Prowler' and 'Down Payment Blues' when he was at his very best.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - these are my favourites.

Plant is very high in my list as well, i don;t have one favourite... plant would def be up there.

Just for a bit of modern flavour....

Clint Boge
Ian Kenny
Jared Leto (he might be seen as "emo" by some, but by god the man can sing)
Davey Havok
Dave Grohl
Chris Cornell (not sure if he's been mentioned, probably has)
Johnny Toogood.

Probably none of those would be the greatest...but I thought they should get a mention.

Cornell is actually an interesting suggestion. Has a very unique voice, high quality stuff. Although his Soundgarden days were easily the highlight, special mention must go to his vocal performance on Audioslave's 'Like a Stone'.

Now, I'm not going to pretend he ranks anywhere near the bst singers, but one of my all-time favourite vocaists is Perry Farrell. Just a unique, magic voice and obviously played a major role in two of the greatest albums ever made - 'Ritual de lo Habitual' and 'Nothing's Shocking'.

My thoughts exactly, Like a Stone is amazing, but his work with Soundgarden > Audioslave easily

Agree with the comments re- one F. Mercury.

Joni Mitchell's voice is remarkable and may not have been mentioned.

Keith Moon for best vocalist/drummer (giggle).
