I agree, he did suit Nirvana perfectly - they were both sh*t!

Staley --> Cobain

hehe

lol, one day you'll get over this obsession with running down Nirvana. I was making a serious point though. It's like Bob Dylan who would also be on my list. Dylan could only dream of ever being able to hit a single note that a singer like Mercury could but it's his singing that gives his music it's charm regardless of his lack of technical ability.

Now whether you like it or not, but when Cobain wasn't trashed not giving a sh*t and being sloppy in concert he was a very good singer and frontman.

Mr. Fahrenheit said:
I have all the recorded tracks of both Nirvana and AiC... there really is no comparison between Kurt and Layne... (Staley>>>Cobain...)

Well you said it youself, it's all subjective. Not trying to upset their fans here but Alice in Chains have always bored the sh*t out of me.

I find it hard to go past Mike patton And freddy mercury as vocalists. As rock vocalists they amazing control over their voices and were both classically trained.

Bassists, anyone here heard buckethead slap it?

I think you'll find that those who don't rate Nirvana do so more out of their mainstream success in comparison to so many other bands in the Grunge era who were underrated by comparison (and i'm talking about more than just PJ, Soundgarden, AiC even though, IMO them > Nirvana)

Freddie was classically trained on the piano, but never had a singing lesson in his life. He was a big fan of a wide range of musical styles, and classical and opera were a couple of definite influences (opera moreso obviously), so that's where that influence came to him.

btw

If Kurt is considered a great vocalist then so should be Joey Ramone. Kurt was suited to Nirvana, they were great together, however in the big scheme of things he was a vocialist with very limited vocal range, stage presence and his lyrices i dont even think he knew what he was writing lol he was just an average vocialist whos style suited Grohl, Novaselic ( spelling).

Mike Patton, unbelievable vocialist, one of the best and has experimented with possibly every genre possible.

Patton>Mercury>Cobain>Ron Jeremy

No love for Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Twilight Singers, Solo Artist, Gutter Twins)?

Also, Corey Glover needs to be mentioned again:

Also, how many rock singers can do a convincing Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar?

Also, another Corey...Corey Taylor can actually sing occasionally:

Mate that's fine, you don't have to like every band.

my problem with Nirvana isn't necessarily with Kurt anyway, it's more with the fact that they just weren't very good.

Not very good? By what criteria? I assume you mean by technical ability because it certainly wouldn't be records sold, popularity or the fact that Nirvana are still big some 14 years after Kurt put a bullet through his brain.

If technical ability is the criteria then the Beatles were sh*t with their basic chords and simplistic pop tunes but history doesn't see them in that light...

The Beatles were a long way from basic.

I'm the biggest Beatles fan you'll find. They may have been ahead of their time in the 60's but what has followed since their music is basic. The point I'm trying to make is that music doesn't have to be overly technical or complex to be great.

Just to go off topic for a sec - Mr. Fahrenheit, did you get your name from the Queen song "Don't Stop Me Now"? I listened to it for the first time in a long time the other day and I was like "I know that name from somewhere!?" lol
