Bird 'threw' bottle, punches at woman
Lisa Davies | July 07, 2009 12:15pm

A YOUNG woman has levelled tearful allegations against ex NRL star Greg Bird, saying he called her a "f***ing s**t with tattoos" before he tipped a vodka drink over her and threw the bottle at her head.

Victoria Shannon has told Sutherland Local Court that the bottle struck her ear and dislodged an earring, after which Bird started "throwing punches at my chest" - about five, three of which connected with her torso.

Bird has denied assaulting Ms Shannon, with his lawyer Patrick Conaghan telling the court Ms Shannon had in fact reacted to a comment he made about her tattoos, and she and her sister Sarah had attacked him.

He has pleaded not guilty to the alleged assault at Fusions nightclub at Cronulla in Sydney's south in the early hours of January 19 last year.
Earlier, Sarah Shannon denied being ``incredibly intoxicated'' and ``taking a swing'' at the former NRL star on the night of the incident. ``Do you get aggressive when you drink?''

Bird's lawyer Patrick Conaghan asked Ms Shannon under cross-examination. ``No ... I don't believe that I was aggressive ... when (the bouncers) weren't cooperating I might have had a bit of a temper (and) raised my voice.''

Mr Conaghan accused Ms Shannon of running out of the club after Mr Bird to try to take a swing at him, which she denied.

``I'm going to suggest to you again, madam, that you and your sister attacked Mr Bird, didn't you?'' Mr Conaghan said. ``You took offence to Mr Bird saying something about your sister's tattoos.

``You abused security at the bottom of the stairs ... and either you or your sister punched one of the security officers.''(And then) you took a swing at Mr Bird - you jumped on his back and you lost your shoe, didn't you?''

Ms Shannon denied all the allegations. However, Victoria Shannon has told the court she saw her sister jump on the stocky footballer's back after the incident. "He (then) sort of threw her to the ground," Victoria Shannon said.
Earlier, Sarah Shannon has denied assaulting Bird and trying to punch a security guard on the night she claims her sister Victoria was left bleeding and shaken after being hit with a glass bottle.

But the stocky five-eighth says he was the real victim of the assault.
Bird claims he was sober when set upon by two women while trying to escort a mate's drunk girlfriend from the club.

Giving evidence at his trial at Sutherland Local Court this morning, Sarah Shannon denied being "incredibly intoxicated" on the night of the assault, saying she had only had half a bottle of champagne.

"Do you get aggressive when you drink?" Bird's lawyer Patrick Conaghan asked Ms Shannon under cross-examination.

"No ... I don't believe that I was aggressive ... when (the bouncers) weren't cooperating I might have had a bit of a temper (and) raised my voice."

Ms Shannon denied all the allegations.

Another incident, though this seems perhaps a little less concrete.

Is this seriously written by a journo? Who's this other him that "Mr Bird" was supposed to have taken a swing at. Isn't there only Bird and two tattooed skanks (err, I mean female "victims")?

I'm confused...

Aahhhh...my bad. I skimmed through it too fast and like a dyslexic ADHD sufferer off my meds, I missed a couple of words. I'm gonna have to start reading with my finger again.

apparently this same witness couldnt remember where she was for over an hour and a half that night buty could remember in exact detail what Bird said to her - when reminded by Birds lawyer she apparently ran out of court in tears . From what I heard from the court today there are holes big enough to drive a truck through in her evidence. stay tuned.........

sounds like she's trying to use public Bird-hate as evidence, her story sounds full of sh*t.

 Give me a break.

If Bird punched a women 3 times in the stomach she'd be in hospital vomiting blood.

My thoughts too.

On 1st read, it seemed a bit OK, something happened, but she was drunk and mixed up.

On 2nd read, it seems more what drugs and sh*t did she take that night, her evidence is all over the shop.

And a 3rd read makes me think Yeah, bullsh*t.

Pretty apparent from just from reading that article that there are big holes in the "story"

And also is not an aggressive drunk, yet "may have lost her temper and raised her voice"

She's got about as much credibility as Weidler.

Expect a few more horror stories like this one... it's that nature of the best. End of the day it won't affect our viewership.

Isn't this the "other" big incident that was brought up back when Bird glassed his girlfriend and not something new? There certainly does seem to be plenty of holes in her story, going by her testimony anyway, but I won't be making any judgements on what Bird's lawyer has to say about it, especially if he's basing his questions on what Bird said happened..

Yes..he wasnt charged at the time because the bouncers said Bird did nothing, and footage backed it up. I spose the chicks involved are riding on the back of Birds other conviction. Surely he wouldnt throw a bottle at someone in a public place?
