Gi gives up 1.5 mill so South's can spend it on another player but give it back through a job that's magically created in an area that won't fall under the football club cap either.

If Perth red was the cap auditor his eyes would be covered in wool

Do you think if GI played until the end of next season he wouldn’t have been given a job for life at Souths then?

The salary cap is for players, he’s retired, he isn’t a player, shouldnt be on the cap. Matters not what they decide to offer him after retirement. I really dont get why
people think it would give a club so massive advantage when they are losing a player and replacing them with a different player. I dont believe many clubs would want to sign an end of career player for 5 years with the intention of only playing them for two of those years, makes no commercial sense.

Only issue I can see is equity and fairness with other decisions, something the nrl seems totally incompetent in delivering.

That's a big assumption that has no basis in fact. You and a couple of other Souffs fans have trotted it out as if the NRL gave that as a reason for their decision simply because you want different treatment to what clubs have received in the past.

I'm sure that if this wasn't GI and Souffs then the NRL would be making a different decision - see I can make completely unsubstantiated claims too.
A). They were paid out.

"Regardless of the outcome of the appeal, Manly will have to pay out the final year of Stewart's and Matai's contracts, but if they is exempt from the salary cap they will be able to lure new players to the club in 2017."

B) they were backended and Manly had form in offering back-ended contracts.

" With both players are understood to be on back-ended contracts, Manly could struggle to receive salary cap dispensation from the NRL for the final year of their respective deals."

LOL Maybe he's getting a $1 a year for the next 1.5 million years.

Look he's not losing anything.....

He's not playing anymore and he isn't being paid out.

It's pretty simple.

A club pays out a players contract it's on the cap.

It they don't it isn't like if they head off to superleague.

It’s simple pay it out straight away and it’s on the cap, pay it out over 5 years under the guise of a bogus job and it’s not.

So you ignored my question the first time so I will ask again, do you believe GI wouldn’t have had a job for life at Souths had he completed his playing contract next year?

What would you pay him to do? The bloke was a seriously gifted player, but the skill drop off appears pretty steep, Sponsors might foot the bill for a year or 2, but job for life? If he completed his contract he may have gotten a few bucks and a goon bag for a few promotional appearances here and there, what else would he be good at?

He is one of the best known rugby league players in the world. And he’s aboriginal. He will be used for his brand and for his community. No one knows what he’s been offered for this role or for how long. But keeping shouting angrily at that cloud lol.

Great point , how many of the star studded broncos generations got these type of roles.

I think it's a waste arguing with him , it's obvious he will get paid to make up for his contract he is forgoing.
I find it funny how they think an ambassador being paid the reported 300k (but I'm sure it will be more , he has form signing multiple contracts ) is worth it for a club. The ambassador role is a rort , which is why the tigers got pinged for Farah

LOL broncos players.

You mean like Allan Langer, Andrew Gee, Michael Hancock, de vere, David stagg, Jack Reed, Casey mcguire, Gillmeister was there for a while.

https://www.broncos.com.au/more/development/game-development/staff-profiles/

Of course that's if you think Souths have millions lying around to pay someone to do nothing.

Life long South's player who's busted his arse for the club year in year out

Versus signing that Melbourne had to offload because he signed two contracts

He’s not a potential immortal. I can’t even be arsed discussing if he should be or not but people more important to the game than me or you are discussing it. He is also the wrong race for what the club wants.

I think he just misses out on the immortal status!

Latrell Mitchell showed in last night's game against Melbourne that not only is he better than Greg Inglis, but also that Latrell Mitchell is the greatest centre who ever lived.

However I would still rate Greg Inglis as the fourth best centre of all time, after Latrell Mitchell, Reg Gasnier, and Mal Meninga.
