I say good on him. Sure he had his share of off-field stuff ups but he’s not alone there with many former greats held in reverence despite their publicised frailties. A fantastic player who imo absolutely deserves his place in history as one of the greats.

On the bright side, I get the feeling GI is a fairly private bloke who is not comfortable in front of a camera so at least we’ll be spared any sort of media career.

He was every bit as talented....but with longevity and consistency, Mal wins

For mine Inglis was much more talented than Mal (faster for one) but Inglis was lazy and Meninga was twice the player Inglis was.

Mitchell has the the potential to be as good or better.

People can say what they want about the off-field shit but on the field he will go down as one of the best players we've seen

The guy is 32. Thats too early for super star attackers to be retiring. In MLB they play to 40. In NFL the QBs play to 40 plus.
Bring in platoons. I cant remember one tackle Inglis ever made.

Nope, insurance company knocked it back as it was classed as a pre existing condition.

Thanks for the correction. The contradiction between the SC treatment of Watmough, Stewart & Matai still stands and now with Inglis.

Meanwhile Pascoe is banned for paying out a contract in full, within the SC and promising Farah a job afterwards.

I guess any salary he gets from Souths for coaching and community work will go onto Souths cap like with the Farah thing. Although Greenberg might waive his magic wand. Also Greg knows where to get a good job reference, Greenberg is good at giving them out

Pascoe was banned for lying to the NRL.
I dont get what peoples problems are with a player retiring, the club no longer paying him a player salary and then it coming off the cap. Surely that is just common sense?

How does this even make sense? obviously injury factors have come into inglis's retirement making him unable to keep up anymore

You can make your nrl debut at 18 years old then get hit by a truck the day after making you a quadriplegic being unable to play

I’m sorry, but being too ignorant to realise that what was happening wasn’t above board is no excuse.

Actually that story about the negotiations paints him in a somewhat more favourable light than I would have expected. I was expecting discussions of separate signed contracts etc, that just sounded like his manager saying what he wanted plus Greg asking about a boat for his old man. Its not his job to know where the club is getting the money or what it is reporting to the NRL.

Read it again, champ

Unlimited - Players can earn unlimited amounts from corporate sponsors who are not associated with the club and who do not use the game's intellectual property (no club logos, jerseys or emblems) provided these are pre-approved by both a Player’s Club and the NRL. These agreements may not be negotiated by the club as an incentive for a player to sign a contract, nor can they be guaranteed by the club.

Every man and his dog knows that clubs are not allowed to negotiate third party deals. Yet...

As everyone was leaving Inglis said to Waldron, "Is there any chance of getting a boat for Dad?" Not even Gainey knew his client was going to make the request.

Waldron replied, "When you're ready I'll give you a contact person and they'll look after you. Up to a maximum of $30,000."

Inglis was 100% complicit.

I knew clicking this thread was a mistake. F me there are some petty deadshits in here.

Amazing career, blessed to have watched him
Majority of rugby league fans are happy to drag our best ever players through the shit. Tall poppy syndrome at its finest

Mate the minute the NRL has the balls to make the players responsible for the deals their management make is the day the cap might actually work.

As for GI great player but maybe a rung down from the greats.

Inglis is retiring because of leg issues, either hamstrings or knees. If he was only on the field for attack he would potentially last twice as long since defence is half the game.
