Mod who changed it: I really think that deserved its own thread

it was merged with the already existing topic about Kenny and Grothe wanting to coach at Parra

it has a redirect so there's no need to get your knickers in a knot. your name will still be there for another day so everyone can give you a big pat on the back

The problem that Parra have is that both Cammo and Daisy are under contract and are currently looking after the squad on their own, they won't pay them out or put simply, they can't afford to pay them out and will more than likely stay as assistants in his first season at the club..

btw, I hardly refer Cameron as a hack, the guy has been part of our system for quite sometime and have kicked start the career of several Parra players.
How long are they contracted for Staggers?

Fitzgerald appeared on the Big Sports Breakfast this morning doing his usual 5 minute blab and TK asked him about the article.

I am paraphrasing a little here, but Fitzy said that Kenny and Grothe were no chance to coach at Parra. When asked if perhaps former club greats returning to the club could return some of the 'soul' to Parramatta, he said that there was nothing wrong at the club and that often past players did more harm than good, by bagging the club publicly.

To prove that Parra had involved ex-players Fitzy then named John Peard, Ron Hilditch and Mick Cronin as players who came back to coach the club. A good reason perhaps, not to employ ex-Eels as coaches, but definitely no excuse not to involve them in other areas, IMO.
Agreed have them there in some capacity, surley they have plent to offer, I think Fitzgerald would be more of a hinderance than the cash flow.

IMO Fitzy is right about former players bagging the club. Bert has been a go-to man for the Telecrap lately as much as Pricey was in the past.

Wishful thinking by Kenny who is looking at ways of making a crust without having to sell photocopiers 9-5.
They were only pointing out Fitzgeralds incompetence.

i had to laugh at EGS applying for this role. this is a man famous for not training, who boasted earlier in the year about driving around the corner of his house and parking there for a couple of hours instead of going to training.

Eels have no room for Kenny, Grothe

By Steve Mascord | November 01, 2008 12:00am

PARRAMATTA chief executive Denis Fitzgerald says there is no role for Brett Kenny and Eric Grothe at the Eels next year - even if they want to do it for free.

The announcement from the former Eels greats that they want to be involved with the club in an official coaching capacity created great excitement among fans, with 90 per cent of respondents to a Daily Telegraph poll supporting their proposal.

As of late yesterday, 877 people had voted in the online poll, with 794 of them in favour of the bid by the two legends to return "some soul" to the club.

But asked if the public support for Grothe and Kenny made a difference to his decision, Fitzgerald said: "None whatsoever."

When quizzed on whether the pair could come in an help out as volunteers, he added: "No, no."

"It's a bloody storm in a teacup. We've got our coaching staff in place other than head coach," Fitzgerald said.

"That's the only position that's available and I don't see either of Brett Kenny or Eric Grothe as being suitable for that."

While accepting Fitzgerald's decision, Kenny said: "Former players, you start to feel as though you're really not wanted there or welcome there.

"If they said 'Come down and have a chat' . . . I wouldn't mind doing that as well."

Kenny and Grothe vowed to go ahead with their proposal and push for a coaching role in 2010 despite Fitzgerald's position.

"It was going to be a bit difficult to say, 'We'll get rid of them and put you blokes in'," Kenny said. "It just wasn't going to happen. I knew that. It's got to wait until the end of 2009."

Grothe was upbeat.

"I hope maybe down the track, it will eventuate," he said.

"Something needs to happen. It's not something that is just going to fly by. We're keen to do something."

these guys dont want the head coaches role. Everyone knows that. They know they cant do it.
They just want to be involved of some sort....
Our club needs to embrace them, before it is to late. Look at clubs who embrace there past greats, they genuinley are a successful club on and off the field.

Fitzy needs to bury personal things and man up and do whats best for the club, players (past and present) and supporters.

It cant do any harm having these sorts of blokes around the club to try and re install some pride and passion in the jumper, whats the worst that can happen? answer: it doesnt work and we are in the same position we are in now....
Here Here sooper!
Exactly what I was thinking. The boys need something to rev them up, God knows they haven't had passion for a long time now.
Get them in for a session a week or something and talk andscream passion at the players.
The players don't seem to be able to find passion for playing with each other of late - unlike the Wenty and Toyota Cup teams

Umm... several players each year from all clubs get injured by incidents at training or home

That quote from Fitzy sums him up perfectly. Would the fans opinion make any difference and he says "None Whatsoever". It's like to him the fans mean nothing to the club. I understand that you can't do everything to please every fan and a telegraph poll isn't exactly reliable evidence but he just ignores the people for whom this club means something to

you know what, i agree with Fitzy, they're there to make the decision and ultimately make sure we get a competative and committed team out there or else they cop it with full barrels from all of us, as they did, several times this year, we can't be expected to dictate whatever decision they make and then expect them to fix it up if it all goes pear shape.

just remember what happened between 1990 to 1996 when 2 of the clubs legends were at the helm.

yes, they should of a position at the club but lets leave the coaching ot the best ones available.
