Group A - Ireland v Australia

Why should Ireland be forced to switch for a home international?

Not that I'm agreeing with kdalymc, but In Rugby Union is that way. If there is a clash of jerseys the home side are the ones that need to change their jersey. It goes back to when touring side took months on a ship to reach their destination that it was a lot easier to get the home national to change their colours as getting the resources required to do this was much easier for the home side.

If Ireland wear a proper Irish green like this

There won't be an issue because it will not clash with this

The only problem will be if the morons at RLI, who seem to get a new jersey every year, use dark green. It wouldn't surprise me. They can't get their flag or anthem right so the colour of their jersey is bound to be wrong.

There would be colour blind people who would struggle to tell the difference in those greens from a distance with figures moving quickly.

If they were colourbind, they'd be struggling to tell the difference with blue and red! Never mind two greens! \\\\:D/

Green and red can be a challenge for me. In the 60s style Souths jerseys I often missed the divide on the colours, full murk instead of red n green stripes. But some where ok, brighter ones I guess.

I would suggest though that the bright light Irish green would be distinguishable from the dark Aussie green.

The Ireland Green is far more darker than the illustration above suggests...

Not too many shades different than that of Australia.

Add all of this playing on a lush green Thomond Park surface, it's not a good look for the match.

Emailed NRL and got an answer.

Thanks for your enquiry.

World Cup rules state that the highest ranked nation will be classified as the 'home team' in each game.

As Australia are currently ranked the #1, this means we will be classified as the 'home team', even when we play Ireland in Limerick.

I hope this assists with your query, and we thank you for your support of the game.

So basically Australia have made the rules so that they get to do whatever they want. No doubt a legacy of Geoff Carr and Colin Love running the RLIF. Hopefully these rules are amended before the WC, having Ireland play a match in Ireland and be forced to wear a change strip would be disrespectful and embarrassing for the sport.

Highest ranked nation? Haven't heard that rule before... I do hope it hasn't just been made up on the spot. Also pretty inconsistent with every other sport, and the rest of RL... but I suppose if it remains internally consistent, it's not too much of a problem as long as we stick with that rule...

Either way, I really don't see what the harm would've been for Australia to have an away strip.

Not only is those whole jersey debacle a joke (i.e. making Australia the "home" team because they are the number 1 ranked side), but the fact this game is held in some remote part of Ireland with a CBD population of only 57,000 is also a joke. The RFL would've had a much better chance of a strong crowd had they held it in Dublin (also making it easier for travelling fans to get to the game).

How is Thomand Park a joke? Most stadiums in Ireland are built for hurling or Gaelic football. Unless you want to host it in a 50,000+ seat stadium where else could you host it? Thomand Park is a specially built rugby stadium.

As for it being in some remote part of Ireland, it will take me two hours to drive to Limerick from Dublin (hopefully). It takes that long to drive to some of my Group 20 away games.

Would be great to catch up with you Springs if you are going.
We are looking at getting a bus or train down from Dublin.

Yeah I'm looking at a hire car. Want to do some driving around the major Irish cities/countryside. How many games you going to?
