Agree (see earlier posts re: my position on Haddin). We don't agree on death riding our sportsmen and women it seems.

Enjoy day two. Ignore this thread until at least day three late afternoon (touch wood).
it's the internet! nameless nuffy's get their moment in the sun!i would hope that no-one takes any of this too seriously.

i do enjoy your posts by the way - you obviously have watched the game for a while and enjoy it.keep it up.

All true and no, not too seriously. Just working with what I read mate (the alleged nuffies I am sure given little care to one pointing it out! )

Thanks. Enjoy today. Should be a great day. If Warner survives the first hour - have a record book handy if India's bowlers continue to go through the motions. It could be his first Sehwag-type BIG score.

Brad Haddin is averaging 11 this series and his career average has dropped below 35. For a batsmen of his talent, this isn't good enough. I am adamant this should be his last series as our number one keeper. It's been a good career, and he has done an admirable job replacing the greatest of all-time.

Peter Siddle continues to impress in all facets. All heart. You can see he just relishes any opportunity to be out there wearing the baggy green with bat or ball or in hand. Even at our worst he has come in to add some respectability to the scorecard when all of the top order have failed.

one thing sids has never lacked is heart. he looks pissed off when he gets out and obviously respects his wicket.

thanks to mcdermott he seems to have found some consistency with his bowling.

Agree snoozer. Someone has mentioned it on this forum already though Craig McDermott's role with our fast bowlers should not be forgotten. The big fella is getting the best from these guys. Mitchell Johnson would benefit most if he wasn't injured and he faces one hell of a fight to get another look in with this young group led by the veteran in Siddle.

Well said Chip.

AB should be remembered as a leader not a captain. He did more than place fields.

Simmo is the one I feel gets forgotten about. Do the basics. Such a simple attitude.
No secret that what helped us get back to number one was we became the supreme fielding side around, and it was no surprise to see that as we faded our fielding went to shit (as was seen in the last Ashes series). We had an attitude in the Simmo/AB area of we may not be the most talented but we will fight hard and will not tolerate mistakes in the field, standard dropped the last few years (although we've looked better of late).

This team seemingly going back to basics has helped us enormously this season.

once upon a time keepers were judged on their keeping, not their batting

then again, his keeping is only average

he, like Marsh, wont be dropped from a winning team which sorta sucks as we are not playing our strongest line up

funny how you look at Oozi's record and he was dropped yet look at Marsh's recent form and I he'll be retained for no other reason than India are shit.

Oozi got dropped cuz we lost so he and Hughes were the scapegoats so CA selectors feel better about themselves now

Only a couple of innings after this against one of the best two attacks in the world also

Not to mention he was killing it in Brisbane before being run out.

Frustrating but he'll get there

Agreed as per previous post(s). Primarily, this is why I believe it's time for Haddin to move on and I believe the right time is at the end of this series. Secondary we look at their batting and Haddin isn't doing enough and Wade is potentially an upgrade though the jury is still out. Being ten years Haddin's junior helps make the decision as well in my opinion.

That's why Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India will never be genuine number one test teams and the Windies were just ridiculously talented bordering on unfair.

Simmo/AB/Tubby/Waugh all took pride in the fielding and recognised hard work off the field transferred on to the field. Catches win matches.

Suddenly Warner brings in a high energy in the field and great catching but the slips are still not convincing though.

Also the aggression was a factor as well. Pattinson brings that back as well.

Agreed re slips, oh for the days of Taylor in first, Waugh in second slip!

Sri Lanka I thought had made huge improvements in their fielding the last couple of years. India have been pathetic though.

I remember Geoff Lawson talking about fielding, and saying that part of why Australians were often better than sub continent came down to upbringing. Most australian cricketers would've been playing some form of football in the off season (league, yawnion, AFL, soccer) and thus when it comes to cricket training and learning to field never had the fear of falling over, diving, getting dirty etc, they were used it, whereas in India/Pakistan the alternative to cricket was Hockey, they never got used to diving around etc.

totally agree about the fielding and it all started from Simmo when he was coach

I remember an interview by Boonie, Simmo said if you are gonna field at bat pad, you are gonna learn how to catch them, so Simmo put all the protective gear on Boonie and literally hammered him with balls for hours till Boonie learned how to catch them, then did it all again the next day then every day at training

Simmo was hands on and he set the bar high, he didn't have all these f**king batting, bowling and fielding coaches that we have now
