Plus this honestly what really could have B Smith done this year to save our season???? He might have stiffened our defence out wide somewhat but FMD could he have helped our go forward???? Our Fitness???? Our lack of a game plan???? Or by him being there would it have improved our attitude???? These are all things to do with the coach which none of them were adressed through out the season. Which is why Hagan should get his marching orders in 5 weeks time.

the trouble is now every other team looking for a new coach knows they have a 5 week headstart to sign anderson first

fmd - what r ppl getting obsessed about hte ben smith comment for?

Key elements raised were the prolonged absence of experienced centre Ben Smith.

"elements" - with an 's' - ie there were more than one, but the telegraph just stated this one ..... do you guys seriously believe hagan thinks this was the only problem? .... and yeah it was an issue (one of MANY!) - our outside backs were a bunch of inexperienced kids (partly due to injury, partly due to hagan's selections)

It doesn't matter what the article says, any thread about Hagan is going to illicit nothing but negativity on a standardly negative forum.

I think its pretty obvious that the board is trying to let Hages go his way. He is a dead man walking.
Congrats to the board for finally waking up to the obvious like fitness etc.. and unless Hages has specifically instructed H and Cat to train the blokes that way, they should also be walking the tight rope.
I honestly think its a 'I will let you go with dignity ' clause for Hages.
Also let me say Hages seems like a hellva nice fella but what we need is a Warren Ryan type coach to smash our players.

The count should be 5 f*cking minutes not 5 months. He is a pedestrian of a coach that should be thrown out on his ear.

It pains me to see teams like Manly whom we consistently smashed not long ago, now premiers while we remain a mutated shadow of what we used to be.

This has been Fitzy's biggest f*ck up and he too should fall on his own sword come the next AGM

Who is off contract at the end of 2009?

If no decision is made by March, good luck re-signing anybody with the uncertainty.

Fishy in all seriousness I couldn't give a f*ck anymore. All of us seem more obsessed with re-signings then winning comps. We can start from scratch as far as I'm concerned.

Well let me just say that I said not too long ago that I had very good mail that Daniel Anderson would be our coach in 2009 and a lot of posters said that I was dreaming. I kept questioning my source who would keep saying " It will happen"
Maybe it will, maybe it wont but it would be funny if in the fullness of time, that one D. Anderson is the coach for 2009. A lot can happen in the off season and a lot can happen in 5 weeks too.

If its true you will make my year. I so much admire Daniel Anderson.

True, but I guess recruitment in general, which has been non existant, will grind to a complete stop IMO while there is uncertainty over who will be at the helm in 2010.

One thing though. whoever is our coach in 09 or 10, the state Parra is in at the moment, it will take 2 to 3 solid years to go catch the Manly , sharks or Storm teams who will just get better. Esp Manly. Des Hasler will never take the foot of the gas.
So even if Anderson SOMEHOW gets the job - look for a long term solution, not an overnight one.

There is no way Hagan will not see out his contract, 1 we can't afford to pay him out. And 2 and more importantly it will be an admission that Fitzy was wrong and that will never happen :x

Daniel Anderson has now finished his duties at St Helens. I suspect he wouldn't be ready to start anywhere for the start of the 2009 season.

I wouldn't mind in the slightest if he has a deal for 2010 onwards, and an agreement to wait in the wings to come in during 2009 if/when Hagan can be notified that he doesn't have an extension.

Paying Anderson a small retainer (the cost of the recent cuts to club backroom staff) to be in charge of recruitment/retention negotiations during 2009, should get players motivated to perform since they didn't bother for Hagan - this achieves the ultimate aim during 2009 even if Hagan stays head coach in name for the final year of the contract.

So they wont re-sign him in march if he isnt up to scratch? Grow a pair, and learn from the mistake. Put a coaching director in to be responsible for the coach's performance and stop signing coach's to contracts that are weighted in their favour. No performance should = a chance to remove them.

Anderson stated in a interview he did not want to coach 2009.But Elliott could be available very soon and to save the eels money i would drive him there even pay the moving costs
