Just read that Billy Ngawini is off contract this year.. do you think he would be above any of our current crop?

nah.

Billy is exclusively a hooker and should remain that way.

IMO all our young hookers, and halves for that matter...are better...in all aspects.

Billy while great in attack, has always had deficencies in defence.

Oh ok, that is a shame. I did remember watching him in one FG game - his stepping in traffic was much like little presto. But I did not concentrate too much on his defense.

Has anyone seen McCrone play a game?

I am Really worried about our half for next year.. otherwise I think we will have a top season.

Watching numerous young guys going for the two halves positons in the halves is going to be one of the highlights of the year IMO. I dont have any idea who they will go with, but the contenders are.

Jarrod Sammut, Josh McCrone, Masada Iosefa, Wade Graham,Richie Williams,Nathan Pill,Dean Caldwell and David Georgiou.

Nathan Pill and Wayne Bond have both been released by the club for next year im pretty sure.
My halves pairing would be;

6.Sammut
7.Williams

Poor in defence, hopefully we can hide them somewhere, but elusive in attack!
I belive next year we will chop and change our half back, i think tighe and masada will get a crack and also wade graham towards the end of the year!

You have plenty of halves next year:

Wade Graham
Richie Williams
Brett Firman
Jarrod Sammut
Josh McCrone
Dean Caldwell
Craig Trindall
Brad Tighr & Bob Blair at a pinch too

Along with 3 very talented hookers in Aiton, Peters & Iosefa.

Out of the above halves, which 3 do you think will make the FG squad, who will play in Toyota Cup, & who won't be there next season?

Brett Firman- Not sure if he will be re-signed
Jarrod Sammut- Top 25
Josh McCrone- Top 25
Dean Caldwell- Second Squad, needs to go injury free next year
Craig Trindall- Second Squad
Brad Tighr & Bob Blair at a pinch too

I got no worries letting Bond go...

Pill looked a likely customer..but no drama's there.

I'd really like to see Dean Caldwell make a real fist of it...he is such a good talent.

I love how everyone is still acting like Priddis doesn't exist, and as if he is a definite to be gone next season.

I thought when they annouced he could negotiate that he was still likely to be with the club next season if only because at that late stage no club could afford to fit him under the cap.

I believe Caldwell has attitude problems, his two games that i saw him play this year were far from his best, he was over weight and sluggish, i wouldnt be surprised to see him give away the game in the next year or two.

I tend to agree. I also think Wade Graham is over rated.

At this early stage, McCrone and Sammut would be front runners for the #7 next year.

I tossed the name Masada Iosefa around for the #7, but his team mates are adament that his best positions are hooker and lock.

Fibroman,

Everyone is proclaiming Graham as one of the best talents we have developed in a while, we all hope he will be our 5/8 of the future, why is he overated to you?

Do you really think Sammut can play First Grade in the halves considering how small he is (got hammered last night by Bowen and missed many tackles)

Have you watched McCrone play? How do you rate him?

I haven't seen McCrone in action, so I can only go off what others say about him. I've only seen Graham play 3 or 4 times, but he has done very little to impress me in those games.

I agree that Sammut has showed some telltale signs of being suspect in defence. Some little blokes play above their weight, but Sammut seems to play like he only weighs 70kgs.

Rhys Wesser isn't a big bloke, I think about 5'8" and 85kgs, but he is very strong and can make the one on one tackles when he has to.

Maybe Sammut will be used off the bench as an impact player? Who knows? But he did get smashed a few times last night and got up looking very dusty. He will finish up getting hurt.

I might see if I can get some more feedback on McCrone off the Raiders site?

Yeah I don't think Sammut would last as a First Grade starter, would be good to have him coming off the bench.

I have seen him play 3 times this year and I have come away impressed. He is a very good young 5/8. A lot of good judges rated him highly after the under 17's origin game also as he starred in that game as well.

Graham has impressed me greatly. His best asset is his leadership and influence on those around him. To captain NSW CHS in only year 11 is a tremendous achievment. He has also captained NSW under 17's, Harold Matthews to a title and his school side.

Sorry, I call 'em as I see 'em.

Based on what you guys say, I will have a closer look at him and see if I change my opinion.

My judgement may be a bit clouded based on watching Brandy and Gowie run around in the #7 for a lot of years. They are fairly big shoes to fill!
