Storm with Orford - A brilliant but inconsistent team who could fail to show up at times

Storm with Cronk - 8 points clear minor premiers

Cronk by a mile.

A make-shift halfback who pretty much organises and orchestrates play as though he were playing halfback all his life. A team doesn't win the minor premiership so convincingly without a quality half. Hopefully he takes the form into the semis!

His kicking game is better than Orford's already!

I gave my vote to Cooper Cronk - the Storm were supposed to be sucking without Bell and especailly Orford, but this guy has just stepped in and made the Storm forgot all about Orford. He's deceptively quick as well.

I'll give Matt Orford a honourable mention - Eagles are flying under the radar.

And, yes, Rovelli - he should be the rookie of the year - since Round 1 and his great debut, I was calling for him to be our halfback, and it took to Round 10 before he was - but he's been playing well.

As much as I was sad to see Belly go he was easily replaced. The reason we didnt try to resign him is because he was 29 at the time and we were looking to free up cash for Greg Ingliss.

Slater. King. Ingliss. Webster.

We had 3 players capable of replacing Steven Bell in the 3/4ers almost immediately!

Newcastle don't have a better team than manly or Storm...

Newcastle have

Joey "the tool" Johns- AUS/NSW
Gidley-AUS/NSW
Carney- GB
Simpson- AUS/NSW
Kurt Gildley- City Origin
Carmont- NZ
Buderus- NSW/AUS
Craig Smith- NZ
Perry- NSW
Abraham- COUNTRY oRIGIN

That is 10 rep players!

Melbourne

Smith- QLD
Ingliss-Qld
Slater- Qld
Johnson-Qld
Geyer- NSW/AUS?
Hill- NSW
King- nsw/aus
Webster-NZ

That is 8 rep players. Newcastle have a BETTER team on paper. To me that just improves the point that Cronk is a vital ingredient to their football team!

Kidwell ---> New Zealand
Crocker ---> QLD State Of Origin
Brett White ---> Country
Ryan Hoffman ---> City

thats 12 rep players....

Huh..on paper both Melbourne and Newcastle have similar lineups. Saying Johns would have done what Cronk has done, is ridiculous as there are so many variables. Cronk is easily the best halfback in the year there really should be no debate. Orford and Rovelli would be 2nd and 3rd respectively!

Just out of curiosity, and because I haven't seen him play a lot, just how much influence has Cronk had on Melbourne being at the top of the competition. The reason I ask is that I haven't seen him with too many man of the match awards and all the talk here is about him being an absolute standout.

Ur kidding, Perry Origin 4 years ago has been very average since then. Carmont NewZealand haha ur kidding me, Carmont is a very average player bar last weekend aganist Penrith. Melbourne have a much better backline than Newcastle in terms of try scoing ability. Abraham 2 very badley broken legs in the last 2 season not even close to the same player he was.
Plus Johns diffenetley been better this year than Cronk, Cronk has been outstanding this season, but look at the stats

Johns: 26 try assists (most in NRL)
2 40/20 Kicks ( 3rd most in NRL)
268 kicks in play (3rd most in NRL)
193 points (Most by a halfback in NRL)
8 Tries (Most by halfback in NRL)

Who voted Carney and why? As much as I think he's going to be great, he's been far from the best halfback in the comp this year.

My three would be Rovelli, Cronk and Orford. All three have been playing really well at club level.

On any given day I would have picked Johns but this year for him has been appauling. I think Jarred Mullen has been awsome for the Knights.

How about this stat. Storm 19 wins...most in club history. Their new seven contributed to that.
