Halfback Situation

I cant understand why the club is after Leulua. The guy stated that he would one day like to return to NZ. Why train someone who only wants to leave in future anyway. We need a long term halfback not a temporary solution

Also it is an ongoing saga trying to sign him. By the time we do sign him the new season will be upon us. It is important to train the person who is going to be the halfback now to get combinations happening etc.

Anyway we should train up one of the juniors ie T Smith , B Green etc as back up to PJ Marsh

BUT having stated that Parra will win the 2005 GF. Lets face it BS has only two seasons to fulfill his fantasy for a GF win.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Reading between the lines - big recruitment, past speculation, coaching changes etc - I reckon he has the first 10-12 games of the season to show some remarkable improvment if not a better than 50% win loss record. It reeks somewhat of what happened when the Hitman was in charge and the Canterbury Four + extras arrived.......

the club played a straight a bat with Hilditch by offering him a place in the board if my memory serves me correct. the last coach they officially sacked was John Peard in 1980.

Oh you oldies know so much more. Smith should be able to win a premiership with an uninjured squad next year.

Should the squad gel, its a possibility. I'd be happy with a top four finish and whatever happens from there happens - mind you I wouldn't say no to a premeirship...

Back to the top on paper our halfback situation looks very good but if they gel is another thing.

i never really rated leuluai's game much, when he was 5/8 for the warriors his passing was ok but his kicking game was average.

but u gotta admit, if u have an opportunity where u can get a young test player u go for it. we've always had a problem in the halves, JT was our last good one.

what happens if marsh, perenara, smith and green dont work out for us next year ? marsh is coming back from a serious injury, and the others are still young.. smith was playing JF at the start of last year and was upgraded to the prems. there's just not enough experience there yet...

How do you figure?

Our 2001 GF team was very strong, and it still couldn't beat a spirited Newcastle team.

We have great players in ourteam, and although I am 100% convinced me will make the Top 6 and possibly Top 4 next season, it will merely be a formality. I highly doubt we're anywhere near a Premiership force just yet.

the 01 squad lacked a lot of finals experience as the game before the grand final showed. We dropped so much ball under pressure. Next years squad is more mature and experienced.

I hope you're right.

Nothing would please me more than being abused and whipped for being wrong.

But at this stage I just can't see it.

I mean we have a lot of leaders in our team and experienced campaigners. Morrison, a more mature Hindy, Cayless, Vella, Wagon the list goes on.

Good point.

My only issue is that I am not convinced that Brian can pull out the big game plans when ther big guns need to be called.

His had chances but every time his been in the situation his opposing coach plan is always on song.
