halves for next year?

He needs to get more involved, work on his placement within the team, improve his kicking and passing in first-grade and he will be sweet :) Also needs to gradually be introduced into the pressures of first-grade, coming off the bench in a hooker role and simply passing and running out of dummy-half will not only boost his confidence and make it easy for him by keeping it simple, but also improve his development in short stints.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

At the moment he is not a first-grade half, but that will come with time. It's merely his age and lack of experience and ability to cope with first-grade pressure that is holding him back, like any normal player. Experience comes with gradual introduction into first-grade, not tossing him into a pivotal role and heaping pressure on him. We have to keep his development steady, not rush it.

Each of our halves have different issues affecting them - although Humble's really aren't issues, more just common-place effects.

Mortimer needs to work on his consistency, the length and strength in his kicking, as well as the accuracy and consistency of those kicks, and he needs to learn to improve his passing game. He also needs to communicate a lot more with the forwards when they are looking for someone to offload to, that way he can gradually develop his current skills at knowing where to be in the run of play. This is basic halves stuff that he can improve on.

Jeff Robson needs to play a bit more consistently than what he showed in 2010, his kicking and passing games are solid and unremarkable, if he works on communicating more with the players and being mentored by natural leaders such as Hindy he can find the confidence within himself and also learn to communicate and lead the team around better.

No, that`s not what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear something sensible. Humble`s passing game is already superb. His involvement is just fine. His placement within the team? He`s played a different position every game. And why would a specialist five-eight benefit from coming off the bench as a hooker? I think that`s something that Mortimer would benefit from. Try again, Boxy. I think you`re making it up as you go along.

Well look, to be fair Morts hasn't had enough of the limelight in the 5/8 jersey. I've been very critical of the kid, but i'll wait until the trials next year and see how he goes in the no.6 jersey and if by chance he continues to have shockers then Wenty is inevitable and we bring up Humble.

For the record I do believe Humble should've been our first choice 5/8, but whatever, the seasons done and dusted and there's little point in speculation now and heck, we've already put in a lot of time, effort, dedication and patience into developing Morts so we might as well throw him into the 6 jersey next year and see if it's been for something at least.

I agree, i dont see the point of Humble playing a hooker type role. That would be very similar to playing Anasta or Mateo at Hooker, Humble is a big hole running 5-8 not a little nippy Mortimer, Gidley or Campell type 5-8. I think his passing game is much better then Robson or Mortimers and his kicking game is probably on par with Robson but need to improve. Also Humble looked more comfortable in first grade then Mortimer ever has in my opinniob. It has nothing to do with stats but he looks like he is never rushed, he knows what to do next and where to be unlike Mortimer who at times looks lost and confused of his role.

A player should not change their style of game in different positions and maybe mortimer was trying to do that to much and he needs to work on playing his own game not his uncles game. Johns said in 09 that he thought Kelly was more ready then Mortimer so clearly there are key aspects of his game that Johns thought needed improvement from when he was in NYC.

If you don't ask politely next time then I won't explain. If you want to keep inferring to me as an idiot then I won't bother talking to you.

What I meant is that easing him into it is the best way to go about things. Humble's passing game in first grade still needs to be worked on, which is exactly what I said. I didn't see any spectacular passing game in first-grade from Humble so far. That's why I said that he needs to be eased into first-grade gradually, not shoved into five-eighth when he clearly still needs time to handle the pressures of first-grade.

Coming off the bench as a hooker when he can already play hooker is a good way to improve his passing and running game, which is what every five-eighth needs. I didn't say play him as a hooker necessarily anyway, I said get him to run and pass out of dummy half to help ease him into first-grade. That will help his passing, help his running, and help him adapt. Play him with the other hooker on then if that makes you happy, at least he will get involved and help him fine-tune his skills. 2011 has been touted as a development year, well then we may as well give Humble his full-run and see if he will translate well into first-grade.

When I say involvement, I mean that defensively he does a good amount of work, but he himself has said he wanted to show us what he can do; I want to see him get more involved in the attacking plays, which is something he did mainly as a supporting role. The kid has skills, I want to see him try them out. He feels he is ready, and I feel he is too, but he does need to be eased into it, like I said earlier.

When I say placement I don't mean positionally whatsoever. I mean he needs to work harder to secure his spot in the first-grade team. He has definitely impressed already, no qualms, but more work needs to be done by both him and his team.

I do know what I am talking about thank you very much, if you want to actually calm down and stop insulting me then we can argue like normal people do without any problems, capiche? :)

I have said this whole time that i wanna see Mortimer at 5/8 next year. But i think if we dont sign Orford we should play with our halves a little bit first combo i would be happy to try is
6. Mortimer
7. Humble

If that doesnt work bring robson in to replace one of them.
I know alot of people think Murray over Robson. well i disagree
Robson has already showed us what he can do in the 6,7 & 9.

Agree parrafan09 under new coach robson should get a role one thing he can do is tackle.

there is def a role in there for robson at this stage.

Still alot of halfs out there that wont tackle.

Yeah i agree his defence is solid I believe better then Morts easy and i havent seen Humble do to much defence tbh,

The thing that i like about Robson is how he calms the team down when we're are getting abit reckless. also if we get desperate for a halves combo next year i would be happy with.
6. McGuire
7. Robson
or the other way around.

Yeah I agree with both of you guys. I'm one of the people that believes Robson deserves his spot in first-grade, and playing him in tandem with Casey Mcguire, Daniel Mortimer, Tom Humble and so on is something I am very excited about. Robbo has never let us down IMO.

In the end this whole argument is really just a difference of opinions, sorry for coming off as a little brat guys.

You dont have to apolagise Boxie you have your opinion just as everyone else does on this forum.

And i agree that our halves are looking pretty exciting for next year alot of youth in those positions. Would be great though to get an old head (Orford) in there to be there as an adviser to some of the younger guys.

My god some of you people are tragics.
Play fair.

:D

Anyway, on Foxsports News, they reported that 1. Daniel Mortimer was the most impressive player on the first-day of training, and they said he 2. wants to secure the number 7 jersey.
Well, he's working hard and has the self-confidence, that was what he needed.

1. Was he the only one there? Just kidding. I have never had a problem with the kid's attitude. It's his [lack of] skill & size that worries me.

2. I suspect this is just more "spin-doctoring" from the pro-Mortimer crowd (i.e. those who signed him sprouting he is "the future of Parramatta").

Tom Humble has done all he can do. Any knowledgeable (objective) judge of talent can see he has it all over Mortimer. Mortimer has just spent almost an entire season demonstrating why he is out of his depth in the top grade and there are those who still want to push him as our saviour in the #7 jersey. God help us if this Fox story is true.

Tom Humble has to be in the halves imo.
showed more talent, flair and instinct than all other half options you have put together.

You can teach natural playmaking instinct like that.
Unfortunately you guys bought into mortimer story too much and seriously overpaid the bloke.

Mate, it`s a bit hard to have a constructive argument about this subject with you. You say that Humble`s passing game needs to be worked on in first grade. I don`t understand that at all. I also thought he handled the pressure and pace of first grade superbly. I believe that, based on the whole of the 2010 season, Mortimer needs to work on every aspect of his game. I think Humble has done nothing wrong and has been very hard-done-by. He should have been given a crack ages ago at five-eight. You won`t agree. End of story. Let`s talk about something else now. Shame; I would have liked to discuss this with you further, but doesn`t really matter. Steve Kearney will sort it out. I just hope we don`t lose Humble to another club that can see what skills he has.

So if Steve was a 10/10 player, you'd be happy if Morts turns out to be a 5/10 player?

Yes I agree that this whole topic should be put to bed. That's what I mentioned earlier, Kearney is the one that calls the shots in the end, whether we like it or not.
As opposed to Anderson, for example, he may choose to blood an entirely new young halves combo, in the stylus of building a spine that can one day rival other teams'.
We just have to wait and see.

Excellent. Do us all a favour and stop mentioning little Dan Mortimer`s name. You keep bringing him up, and then you can`t handle anyone else`s opinion about him. Capiche?
