Hardest Pre-Season Ever

Comrade General Secretary J. Stalin is back in favour in Russia

I think the CIA thought the Beatles were admirers of or sympathetic towards Communism/USSR but not the case - The Song was a spoof/parody of the Beach Boys American Culture songs and Chuck Berry's Back in the USA.

Never the less it was one of the few Western Songs approved by the Ministry of Culture to be purchased and played by USSR Citizens.

A lot of people say the Clash's I'm So Bored with the USA is anti US - Not the case either - more about being bombarded with US Culture and Politics - A McDonalds on every corner and US TV shows replacing British Made ones on TV etc

Well he is a big boy and regardless of what some may think , I would rather have his size and bulk on my team than running at me .

Perhaps Griffin will be able to get him in the right frame of mind to become a true asset for the Dragons .

Just one of the 3 or 4 ifs that will shape our season ( if Burgess & Debellin come back better than ever, If the young players have great seasons and become as good as we think they are , if the Molo's, Sua,Mbye, Woods & Gosiewski end up astute signings, if we clean up our discipline & defense etc )

It's pre-season, so, at this stage, I am absolutely positive that all of these things will happen! (🤞)

I expected him to be a fair bit overweight but looking at footage he’s not as bad as I expected. Was lagging behind a bit but is probably just a lazy trainer.
Yes noticed how trim Suli looked. Was lagging as you say. The fitness guys better get stuck into him especially with his running. Early days yet and a lot of water to flow under Tom Ugly's Bridge but the whips should be out and cracking on all of the guys after the Christmas/New Year food and beverages intake.

He looks the goods and will be fighting fit come next March. The players all appear to have a spring in their step and won't take them long to gel with one another as the season progresses. Better attitudes mean better results.

I can appreciate that the writer of the article wants to see Amone and Sullivan in the first grade team somewhere, but i can't see Sullivan at 6 and Amone in the centres which forces Suli to the wing...

I think Bud is a game manager and will be our long term 7 after Hunt leaves. I can see him playing reserve grade till then and filling in for Hunt when need be.

I think Amone is a ball playing five-eighth. I think that will be his long term position and i think he's good enough to play him there from round 1 next year.

I know people have mentioned Amone ending up at lock when he fully fills out, and maybe that might be the case, but i think the more room you can give him the better. He is very good on his feet and i can see him really learning to pick out lazy defenders and targeting them with his speed and footwork to set up his outside backs. His short kicking game is very good too and should be used to advantage.

Suli to the wing makes no sense for mine. He's proven he can play left centre, which can be somewhat of a specialist position, play him there and put speed on his outside to take advantage of his running and passing game.

Anyway things looking brighter for the team as a whole, let's hope it pans out that way next year...

Merry Christmas all 🎄

HAHAHA... with the quick look at the article, i actually missed that mate. How embarrassing for the writer that he left Molo out of the seventeen completely. He must have been on the drink to do that. He'll obviously be there somewhere.

As someone who likes to read the forum to mainly get an idea of what other supporters are thinking about the team, and to only comment every now and then, i must say @getsmarty, it is great to have you back posting these articles that we can all read and comment on if we choose to. I can just click on the forum when i get a chance, and the articles that you post, from many different sources, are there to read. What you do makes things more interesting for all of us.

You do a very good job and are a true VIP of the forum.

Merry Christmas mate 👍

The problem with these sort of articles is that they're written by journalists who spend 1/16th of their time looking at a particular team. That's how you end up with Molo and Burgess out, Amone in the centres and Suli on the wing. Haven't even seen that lineup in these forums!

I remember my pre season of 69 / 70 boy that was tough.

We had a coach who was in the army reserves and he was the reserve grade & occasionally 1st grade halfback for Ryde Eastwood.

2 full laps of the entirety of Peakhurst Park to warm up lol and then 4 laps of the footy oval itself with sets of sit ups, burpees, star jumps, push ups etc in every corner.

He was so fit he would wear army boots and do half of it running backwards and yell and bark at us to keep "moving".

Loved his hand claps when doing the push ups.

We barely saw a ball and then only to chase it after he kicked it downfield as part of our so called kick chase strategy.

Thank god when the cold winds of winter arrived and coach had to go to his own training and our illustrious manager Choko would take us for the Thursday night sessions.

That's when we learnt about Penfolds Invalid Port, Brown Muscat, UP Frigate Rum all purely medicinal and to keep us warm of course.

End of season trip to Taree and stayed at Fotheringham's Pub which was a hoot.

If memory serves me correct Graham Buckley who was a fair bit younger but good mates with some of the blokes in our team managed to sneak onto the bus for the weekend and we used to hide him in the corner while we stood around him and give him a beer.

Played for Penshurst RSL.
Back in the 60's Kevin O'Brien was the coach......Preseason was a shocker.....the road running start at Penshurst park down King George's rd.Turn left up Stoney creek rd,turn left Forest rd,all the way back to Penshurst park on the corner of king George's rd & forest rd....
What a run, some of the guys used jog down to Beverley hills and catch a cab...😂
