Smith, Smith, Sheens I believe have been out too long and probably not in touch with todays style and pace but would and could make excellent managers with their coaching staff underneath them (similar to Soccer in europe - maybe thats the way it will eventually go) problem there is budget ! Walter ... what happens at Origin time and lead up to Origin ??? Will his mind be there ??? That leaves Cleary and Hasler Hey id go for Cleary out of the two.
I'd say that a 2 year deal with B Smith would put our squad on the front foot with consistent competitive performances. After 2 years hopefully we are in the position to hire a top grade coach.

Yeah I have reservations about bringing in coaches who have been out of the game for an extended period. The game evolves so fast that I think coaches (like players) can get left behind if they are away too long.

Chris Anderson's brief stint at Roosters comes to mind.

All I know is if we have another sh*t year with Mary they could not sign him again ...... could they ? What is on the cards if Mary is not signed after this year , it could well be Young Jr or Hornby coaching ... That will really give me a kick in the guts , and will just about do me following one of the Greatest teams in the league world .

I'd like to get a better understanding of the remuneration package that Board members, management (including Doust Millward and Craig Young) are on. I believe some of these old boys are receiving two bites of the cherry.

If these 'managers' don't like this, accept there resignation and hold an AGM to rectify all the obstacles put in place to protect Board members tenure.

To me it is more important to have a top line coach than it is to have over-paid self interested old boys. Time to cut management salaries to make room for a top coach and his staff. This pathways rubbish is just a rouge for a Millward empire of power and wealth. Get a good coach with good staff and the Dragons will fly atop of the ladder again.

I think anyone other than our current 3 amigos, although I don't understand why KW is being talked about on here. Is he on the market or interested?

I think most of us would like to see an outsider, preferably not a rookie again and somebody that is held accountable and more importantly someone who has the gonads to hold players accountable.

A suitable coach is needed but is a band aid solution to the major surgery that is required at the club. We have a good and improving player roster, the old fans are still there but how many fans have been lost, especially new fans over the last several years? The club has been bogged in low range reverse for years.

I don't get this love for Walters as coach? Which NRL club did he coach? He coached a QLD team full of superstars to 2 wins and 1 loss. 1st win was by 1 goal and QLD scored 1 try. What is so impressive about that? He would not even be an option neither Daley nor anyone else who has only coach Origin. Lets face it, at that level how much influence do you have? The players coach themselves.

My order would be simple:-

1) Demitriou - What he did last year was pretty amazing and something Walters or any other rookie have not achieved before. There is nothing else this guy can do to prove how good he is. With the current structures Saints are putting in place, it is clear whatever team he has he gets, he will get the best out of them so recruitment won't be his priority. I am sure he will relish having a pack like the Dragosn have now with Hunt in the halves and Dufty/Field at his disposal.

2) Cleary - Warriors he left in good shape as with Panthers. Built good young sides and removed deadwood. He has the balls to get rid of a highly paid player like Luke Lewis (who did hardly trained as he had bad attitude) and spent money on youth which he knew would excel. HE had teh vision to let Coote go and keep Moylan which is pretty good. Both excellent players but long term Moylan will serve them better. This would have been a tough choice imo. Both gun players.

If Saints move quick enough they can have either of the above if not option 3.

3) Brian Smith or Tim Sheens - Both quality coaches and good at developing youth into stars.

4) Hasler - Possibly but not on a long deal. I would only get him a 2 year deal max. Dogs are playing crap and he has had an open salary cap to play with. More of an advantage than every other coach bar Bennett and still won nothing in his time at the Dogs. 2 GF appearances where they were clearly 2nd best on the night.

As i said we need a revamp starting from top of the tree right down to the coaching staff even as far as the cleaning crew and janitors haha.

Although i might add we did win a premiership with Hornby at half kinda liked good old Ben ..... And then Bennett ripped the dragons apart !!! So much for the master coach who always protested he would never take players from his club to another club. Yeah right how many dragons did he take to Newcastle may i ask ?

The correct answer is "not many"
This old chestnut keeps getting trotted out every so often and is as false today as it was when first raised.

Bennett has total continuity in his career do Sheens and Smith?
Like good players coming back from several seasons out they are never the same and almost never recapture the moment.
Sheens is currently coaching and has only ever taken a 3 year break - just because he's not in the NRL doesn't mean he's not active....hes at HKR in the UK....

Adam Cuthbertson
Jeremy Smith - (im pretty sure)

I think that's a few and the forwards were pretty much all of our mongrel at the time.

As the Director of Rugby League, not head coach.

By your logic Gus Gould is an equally viable potential coach.
