Hasler to coach in 2018

Hard to say the exact reason it happened though. Was it due to salary cap pressure? Lichaa had shown some good promise in NSW cup I may have been seen at the time as value compared to Ennis. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

To me Brissy, that's what makes the decision so mystifying - the NSW Cup is full of players who show promise at THAT level - exhibit A - Adam Quinlan, but never make the transition to the next level. To take a punt like that when you already have one of the top 3 or 4 hookers in the NRL seems crazy. Even crazier in hindsight.

Agree , letting Ennis go was Dessie's biggest blunder .
However I wonder what fool allowed him to leave the Dragons , after only one season.
The man had ' class ' written all over him - but apparently not every one agreed with that.

Hasler is the best option out there, hands down.

Walters is too untested at club level
Cleary would be great but he doesn't have the resumé that Hasler does
Demetriou isn't leaving the Broncos.

We're talking about a guy who has never had a win percentage below 60% as Head Coach. A guy who has won multiple premierships and clearly instills confidence in his players. Yes he's made some errors in judgement, but do people remember when we lost Josh Morris? Do you remember why that happened? Because a bloke called Wayne Bennett thought that he "wasn't ready for first grade" and was prepared to let him go. People seem to rate Bennett pretty highly don't they?

It's an easy one for the club, no other coach should come into consideration unless the deal with Hasler falls through.

I agree Hasler is our best option so let's hope the Club has already agreed to terms with him.

Yes perhaps. One error of judgement does not maketh the man however. He is a top coach and has been one of the most successful in the last decade with his team's making 50% of the last 10 GFs.

And I'd rather be the bridesmaid than the guy stuck down the back near the kitchen entrance and dunnies
Me as well. He also has 2 premierships to go with those 5 appearances so not always the bridesmaid like old B. Smith. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I also believe he is the only coach to have coached teams to to the last 10 consecutive finals series. Not something to sneeze at. The more I think about it, the more disappointed I will be if we don't get him.

Absolutely- and I'm sure he at least has the capacity to learn from his mistakes, something this club seems to not be able to do. Would be happy to hear he's replacing Mc Gregor if it happens.

Ennis also had a habit of overriding calls from the halves in attacking positions.

As good as he became, his maturity was slower than anticipated during his time with us.

And to be fair, a lot of clubs seem to have made the mistake of "letting him go" lol.

Dragons management were down in Melbourne recently, Bellamy was showing them around the storms training facilities. It struck me as a bit strange that an opposition coach would be so open with a rival club.

Yeah agreed but why would bellamy be so open? Is that common you reckon?
Crush I'd say he would be open & accomodating when the club is no threat to the Storm Juggernaut. Otherwise the NRL have told the Dragons to pay up or relocate!!!

Probably showing them why he didn't sign with us and what a professional coach would expect with regards to training facilities. Hopefully the management group took notice and will try and scrap some funds together to develop our facilities.

It's not common in other businesses, at least the ones I've been involved with. You do anything to maintain a competitive edge, and that means no gratuitous tours of the facilities. The only time you show everything is if you are selling or merging the business, and I am not seriously suggesting that is the case here. Bit of a mystery really.
