Wests Tigers utility Tim Moltzen could remain at the NRL club next season after seeking a release from his deal to join St George Illawarra.
Tigers officials will meet with Moltzen's manager Martin Tauber this afternoon to discuss the possibility of him staying.
Tauber admitted he was in the dark about the full extent of the situation having just returned from overseas.

"I only got back from New York yesterday afternoon and to be honest, I have no idea what it is all about," Tauber said.
"I've got a meeting with the Tigers today and that's when I will know exactly what is going on.
"He has definitely signed with the Dragons, but now there is talk of a release so I am now off to find out more."
Moltzen agreed to a three-year contract with the Dragons in July in a move that started a war of words between the joint ventures.
The decision to offload him upset many of the Tigers' playing group, with star five-eighth and Moltzen's housemate Benji Marshall, particularly outraged.
At the time, Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys accused the Dragons of being arrogant and disrespectful, claiming they announced the signing without his club's knowledge.
Dragons' chief executive Peter Doust hit back, saying they were bemused at the comments and that they had acted in good faith.
The Tigers had seen Robert Lui as their long-term halfback.
However, the 20-year looks set to be shown the door following an alleged assault on his partner after the club's mad Monday celebrations.
His departure would see the club without a recognised, experienced halfback on their books.
Officials from the Dragons and the Tigers were unavailable for comment.

Looks like one of them will be f*cked next year! This will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Saints would be mad to let him go back.

No point keeping a player if he doesnt want to go. I must admit that I was pleased to see him leave, but he started to fire towards the end of the season. Maybe the saying of 18 months to recover from a knee reco is true. Would be happy for him to stay, but I would prefer a recognised fullback.

lol at tigers trying to cover themselves after Lui has let them down. St's would be mad to agree to let him renege on his contract.

Make him play for illawarra for a year if he doesnt wanna play for the dragons. Doubt we paid a premium for him.

To be honest if he doesn't want to come it'd be stupid to try and make him. Plus we can make do without him.

But if the tigers officials or players have tried to talk him into breaking his contract, especially after telling him to look elsewhere then I think we should stand firm and make sure he doesn't play in the NRL. We could have signed other players but instead committed to him.

So many Tigers supporters described Moltzen as a weak, spineless cat. Seems to be spot on if this is true

I don't think the Tigers talked to him at all. Moltzen is best mates with most of the squad, so I won't pin this on the Tigers organisation unless they say so.

To me it sounds like they panicked after Lui's last incident, and are releasing Lui (right move) after releasing Moltzen (wrong move).

To me, it makes Humphreys original blow up more interesting. That smacked of someone with power releasing Moltzen without telling Humphreys. Now the Tigers want him back. They are all over the shop on this.

They'd be mad to keep him. You should never keep a player at your club if he has intentions elsewhere *cough Justin Hodges cough* Saints should seek some kind of financial compensation from Wests and have him de-registered from the NRL for his contract length or punt him to the lower grades for his time at Saints.
