Surely with her strong moral and religious beliefs she would want to do things ethically?
Drawing a really long bow now.

Also, how do you know she hasn't tried all those other means, was met with obstacles and this is an absolute last resort?

And there is still no evidence so he is innocent.
No evidence doesn't mean he isn't guilty. It just means he wasn't found guilty.

In a case where it's one person's word against another's, how likely do you think there is to be sufficient evidence for a conviction?
One of the lawyers the girl (Ms V) hired lectures about ensuring celebrities cases get dragged through the media to ensure a favourable outcome...ie a payout
The lawyer (and even the accuser) being scumbags doesn't mean Hayne is not guilty either. Likewise, an award of damages (or an out of court settlement) doesn't mean Hayne is guilty either. The fact is we will never know what happened unless Hayne admits to it, or video evidence appears. But that (the public not knowing) doesn't mean Hayne is not guilty either. The presumption of innocence is for the courts. The balance of probabilities is for each individual punter to decide for themselves.

If nothing comes of this how damaged is his reputation in all seriousness?

Sports stars that have been responsible for some of the most hideous crimes are regularly welcomed back into the fold if they are good enough. In fact, if they come back and do great things on the field it isn't long before they are celebrated as 'heroes' again.

I understand the point about reputation and accept that it is an issue. But is it really a big issue?

I think it is. Some people already hated him, even some Eels fans. I have heard a few people say he should never play NRL again, or never play for the Eels again and these are Eels fans that I know.

They are not fans like us that discuss every aspect of what has happened, they just hear the news headlines or see the newspaper headlines and assume he is guilty, so yeah a lot of damage done to his rep in some peoples minds.

Those people would have already thought he is a merkin. His reputation was already really f**ken low. It is hard to damage something that is already broken.

I'm not sure why so many people on here are concerned about his reputation when he has happily spent the last couple of years pissing it away.

If he were to sue for damages, I'm not sure what he could possibly claim. I doubt the NRL will have enough evidence to punt even if a settlement is reached.

Also, if he wins a couple of games for Parra on the buzzer his reputation improves significantly.

The presumption of innocence is for the courts. The balance of probabilities is for each individual punter to decide for themselves.

And due to the fact the case never even made it to trial, at this point the balance of probabilities suggest he is innocent.

I reckon Hayne will pay her out to make it go away and like you said this doesn't mean he is guilty. It likely just means he has more money than her.

I wonder how many poor people get civil cases brought against them for similar cases?

Maybe there's a summons?

He looks guilty. Incredibly short legs.

I personally think he (Hayne, not Arthur Summons) is probably not guilty of rape, but I'm sure she genuinely feels wronged for something. And I'm not a fan of Jarryd Hayne.

Being called a dream chaser, merkin etc is a lot different to being called a rapist
You called her a 'Wannabe virgin Christian girl'. You directly called into question her sexual history and religious beliefs.

We can argue the semantics about whether it is better or worse to call someone a 'rapist' but can we just accept it was a pretty shit thing to say?

Agreed. But he is getting accused of rape. And if that didn't occur whether she feels genuinely wronged about something has got nothing to do with it.

Are you trying to do your best Pou imitation here ?

Sorry, but you don't know these people, in some cases this was the straw that broke the camels back.

If she wasn't anonymous (which is the original argument) I could just call her by her name

In some maybe, but not many.

Do you think I am making shit up when I am suggesting that Hayne had a really bad reputation before we found out about this incident?

I would have thought that it was pretty well established? Do you think he had a good reputation before this happened?

I'm not speaking generally, I am speaking about people I know, some even said it verbatim "this is the straw that broke the camel's back"
