Geez, I don't understand this modern way of leaking information and then announcing it officially.

Either leak it or announce it - don't do both. Not professional as far as I'm concerned. I think its a case of too many people with egos wanting to be first to break a big story. Who cares who broke it first? The most important thing for me is that all the info is correct.
