He played a lot of "madden" on his PlayStation or X-Box as a youngster - I wonder how much it actually helped him understand the intricacies & rules of the game.

I don't agree with all the talk of NFL taking a lot of top NRL players. Hayne is the sort of athlete who would most likely give any sport a good shake. If he makes the roster, it'll be on special teams as a returner for sure. Time will tell if he can move up the depth chart as a running back.

As a long time niners fan, I'm happy to see him on my team and hope he does really well.

One things for sure Feej, they have to pick him in the squad - his marketability is there for all to see.
If he scores a TD the stadium will go mental.

helped me to watch the game on TV. and understand the process etc.

play it, a little.

didn't really help when the linebacker hits you direct in the helmet at speed.
cant learn that through madden lol

I have a feeling he has a spot in the squad now, because if he is not given a place he basically goes on the open market and would almost certainly gain a place in the roster of another team. If that happened and he played a major part in another teams success the 9ers coaching staff would get crucified. There is far too much down side to dropping him and far too much upside to holding onto him even if he proves only an average player. I reckon he has shown enough in the short amount of time already on both sides of specials that the only way he will be let go is if (god forbid) something happens with his fitness like a serious injury.

He can do that anyway, he's a natural.

I've never really watched a game of NFL because trying to understand the rules (& process, as you say), turns me off it. Will definitely watch next time Hayne is on though, if I'm home.

hes made waves, so he wont get cut.
if they did cut him, he would be signed almost immediately.

but given that the niners best defensive player from last year retired, his replacement retired after his rookie season, 4 other guys retired and the most talented member of the team was as it turns out is a genuine crazy person and a felon....

hell be on the team

Saw snippets of the post game press conference with the coach.

When quizzed about it being difficult to not sign him, he laughed & said "zing", as if to say they'd be mad not to.

Must be bitter sweet for Eels fans. Thank f**k he's not playing us this week or i'd have no confidence of a win. He always played his best against us.

I know what it was like when Matt Rogers defected, it leaves a gaping hole in the team. I don't think we've been nearly able to match him, until now. ;-)

A mate of mine broke his leg back in the days when Don Lane used host the NFL on the ABC. As he was incapacitated mostly, he watched it every week and learnt the rules to the game, then he taught me.

So I've been following it ever since but never really had a team to support up until now. (Yes I know they are shit)

Dont understand the game at all!

Am more of a MLB fan after attending dodger stadium

Went to a game at Dodgers stadium in April and loved it. That said, I also went to a Niners home game last year and loved it more! :)

Sports in the US are great to see live.

I LOVE Rugby league, and really do HATE being a wet blanket. (BTW How long term 49ers fan are you? Remember John David Crowe?

Anyway- just to bring things into a bit of perspective,

--1.Australian Sports -how have they faired when American professional sports took their stars ? How is Australian Professional Basketball going ? Brisbane cant even support a team .It used to be a popular night out ! But they've only taken half a dozen Australian players. Still gives the perception that if you go to watch Basketball in Australia its a second rate comp.

2.How has rugby league gone in promoting their sports to other codes through code jumpers? How many AFL fans watched Karmichael hunt or Israel Falau and thought Wow ... I better start watching Rugby League !!! How many Yawnion fans jumped ship to league when they saw a few League stars carve them up?

I suppose the simplest way I can put my point is -If you want to sell rugby league in the international market you need to sell the game... NOT sell its best players to showcase other codes!
