Davis is a 6 ft 3 TE, if he shed some of the load, he would run much faster. But he isn't the only one, there is many others that couls so well at other events.

The elite high school runners in the states run in the 10.0X bracket. He wasn't even in the ballpark then and would have no way of getting closer now.

Similarly with his vertical leap, his best efforts in high jump (his best event in track or field) was a district championship with a paltry 1.96m jump.... About 20cm short of most state high school records in Australia. Hell I jumped 1.92m in year 12 and I got laughed out of regionals.

NFL players are tremendous athletes, but they are not some elite class of superhumans. They just happen to have been born in a country with the richest sporting leagues in the world.

Most US athletes leave to play pro sport - pays better

Cricket and soccer pay a hell of a lot more than track and field for most Jamaican athletes. Doesn't seem to have stopped them from producing the fastest men in the world at the moment.

Could you do that with a bench of over 200 kilos ?

Last time I looked the yanks were on top of the table at the Olympics and by a very healthy margin.

They don't dominate the track like they used to. I just picked Davis because he is such a freakish total package and I like watching him play.

Chris Johnson had the 10th fastest 100m for his age group at 10.50. Walter dix who won a bronze medal at the Olympics beat him at Florida state championships with a 10.46.

That's besides the point. You are trying to claim Davis would have been a sure fire olympic medalist if he had chosen track. Fact is his performances wouldn't see him even earn a place at a national championship let alone make the team.

They don't give olympic medals for bench press either.... Plus I have a feeling he'd struggle with the drug testing

And Michael Phelps earned more money when in his prime than most NFL players as well, so obviously pursuing an Olympic Dream is worth plenty of money if you are the greatest of all time in that sport.

If you are ony going to be making up the numbers though, that's when the professional team sports become obviously far far more valuable

Trindon holiday beat the above mentioned future bronze medalists in 07 where he finished second to Tyson gay and would have qualified for world championships if he didn't decide to play football.

Wow.

Sucks for Parra and sucks for the game.

Doubt he'll be gone long though. In fact i'll be surprised if he's not back playing in the NRL sometime next season.

Yeah I was pointing out that saying the Yanks don't do well in the Olympics due to the NFL was a bit flawed.

Believe it or not but Kalvin Shoddy said this was the exact reason we struggle at the Olympics - too many potential olympians busy fumbling!

Let Hayne go. He'll be missed at Parra for sure... but ot wasn't so long ago the code was supposedly in crisis when Folau and Hunt left. But another player in his mould will take his place. TBH I don't think he'll be anything more than a bench player. Keep him away from the PAckers.

Buffalo would be a perfect fit; he could go from one team with a culture of choking to another.
False logic. It would be better for the game if the departing stars and the upcoming stars compete against each other for the same premierships and rep jerseys.

Losing top tier stars does hurt the game.

China has beaten them in the last 2 Olympics.
