Eels just need to make the most of all the free salary cap space they will now have. Maybe renegotiate existing contracts so that come 2015 the players they really want to keep are taking up a smaller chunk of the salary cap, aswell as having all the funds that Jarryd Hayne has freed up.
I would be offering Will Hopoate and Nathan Peats contract extensions that are front loaded for the 2015 season. Do the same with guys with big futures like big Semi, Mau etc. and with whatever is left over try and get someone like Israel Folau, Brett Stewart, Josh Hoffman etc. to sign.
With the money Hayne was on under the salary cap, they would probably be able to do all that and still have some decent coin available to improve their roster for 2016.
Hayne could be doing the Eels a huge favor in the long run. It's a decision I doubt they had the balls to make, yet if they can put up with another season of being a fringe top 8 side like they were this year, and make the right moves for the 2016 season they could be a top 4 side. They just cant afford to throw the money Hayne was on at the first big name player that is willing to sign with them and not actually improve the squad in the longterm.
