Let's just remember where all this talk of El Masri is coming from....Tony Peters. The same bloke that last night said Webb was a done deal with the Knights. Tonight he signed with the Cowboys.
 That's beautiful! Don't know how some of these "sports journalists" keep their jobs...

El masri is a great goal kicker but usually its his centre pairing who draws in the extra man a and that create space. He doesnt offer much apart from his goal kicking.

As I said before it is not him personally.

Let's be honest here if El Masri signs with the Eels where do you expect all his fans to go??

The things that happen at Dogs games will start to happen at Parra games.

most of the people who start the riots are not Dogs fans but they tag along with their mates who are Dogs fans and more importantly El Masri fans. They will support the player not the club, player moves teams they move teams.
Look I will confess as soon as I read this post I clicked the reply button so I apologise if I cover ground that has already been covered BUT I must ask here and now- where do you get your information from. This smacks of racism and I only apologise if I get a reasonable response.Have you ever met Hasem El Masri? I have seen him at junior footy games and he is the most wonderful ambassador for the game. The kids love him and he seems to have time for them all.
I for one would be happy to have him on board the Parra train.

The one and only time I have ever been to Parramatta and Parra stadium....what an eye opener that was...thunderstorms and violence.

We walked the whole way to and fro the train station...bloody scary for a first timer!!!!

I think you could be more than excused to think the response by "Flatch" smacks of racism, It's absolute lunacy to believe that El Masri, a good clean living family man who is also a devoted Muslim attracts riotists fans! what an absolute hypocrite!! does he have any proof that El Masri has undesirable fans?? I would say not.

Fans follow the club not the player and it's not an issue as to whether we need El Masri or not it's a fact that he is Muslim of Lebenease back ground and thats probably what "Flatch" is concerned about.

I'll tell you now the only fans he'll attract to the games are his wife and kids and if we do end up signing him [which I think we won't anyway] I will join you in welcoming him and his family to the club.

Did I say it was Hazem who was doing it?????

- NO

But, the people who do cause these problems for a large part support him and most likley will follow him to another club.

If DArren Lockyer fans or Andrew Johns fans or even Nathan Hindmarsh fans caused the same issues my stance would be the same

Ok ,so you cite the examples of highly media covered incidences involving Parra and Bulldogs fans and use that as an argument to suggest that riots follow Hasem El Masri around  Ok so its obvious,If Nathan Hindmarsh moved to Canberray you would all jump ship and begin supporting the Raiders  Again, where is your evidence that these "riots" follow El Masri in particular

He's an honest, upstanding bloke. He can kick goals from anywhere. He is pretty solid defensively. He can score tries.

My only problesm are that he is getting a little older, he jus isn't quick enough or explosive enough and - sorry, but it's true - he came from Canterbury, where their culture doesn't exactly thrill me.

I agree with people - we have Witt, Burt, Riddell, even Morris. We don't need another so-so winger who has one great ability.

Especially if he is asking $200k or around there.

lets get one thing straight....i dontthink we need el masri and i dont want us to sign him! But it is more than interesting how the rumours of his signing prompted certain members of this board to react in a racist manner.

for the main, it seems people dont want him for the right reasons....but reactions like that of hurriflatch disgust me! this is the same poster who once said that he HATES El Masri and if El Masri came to the club he would stop following the eels! when asked what his reasoning was for "hating" El Masri he could not offer one...just that he does.

mate, you need to grow up, its intolerant stances such as yours that genius society's attitude!

Why turn this into a social or moral debate?

There are facts which may sound very racist but are true.

I know of people that I went to school with of Lebanese background who constantly got in trouble for shady dealings. And they had huge groups of friends, all Lebanese. In effect, they were a gang.

They had a particular way of doing things - they resorted to violence and abuse. When asked why they were so un-civilised, they replied (in earnest, straight from the horses' mouths), "It's just the way you do it back at home."

Mate, I am not racist.

I can see that these guys are but a minority of the Middle-Eastern population of NSW. But they are problematic.

And the fact is a lot of Bulldogs fans ARE aggressive and abusive people - I know, because I have gotten verbally abused by a large group of them whilst attending a game with my sister and two of her female friends. Picture it - a large group of 20 young men or so threatening me and the young women I was with PHYSICAL violence if we didn't leave the stadium in 10 minutes. During the game we people behind us throw empty Coke cans at us.

This was at this year's Round 1 game. We left early, made a complaint but got nowhere.

Sad fact of life is that certain cultures promote certain behaviours.

But not everyone is subject to them.

And I don't recall anyone ever saying that they wouldn't want El Masri at Parramatta just because he's Middle-Eastern.

Like I said - I've had my fair share of woes with a lot of Middle-Eastern people. But I am also friends to many, and they are great people.

You have obviously had bad experiences...and i am not here to defend the minority of lebanese that are social morons...but tarnishing an entire race simply because of the offences of some is ignorant! By that rationale whie anglo saxon males should be avoided because Martin Bryant was a white anglo-saxon male....or the entire british population should be branded thugs and hooligans.....just ignorance!

in any event, hurriflatch has no justification for saying he HATES someone who has done nothing wrong other than play for a rival club and have his origins in a nation for which hurriflatch has obvious disdain and to which he exhibits the utmost prejudice....its highly offensive!!

You're absolutely right mate. I agree 100%.

I don't dislike Middle-Eastern people. I dislike SOME that I know.

But that's like saying some Chinese people gave me bad food at a restaurant so I hate all Chinese people.

All I was saying was the facts everyone knows - different countries have different cultures.

I lived in Barcelona for 4 years, for instance. There was a relatively high proportion of Algerians and Central Africans there. I remember that some Algerians got in huge trouble with the law because they took the law into their own hands (some Spanish racist thugs stole from their store and trashed it) and effectively hunted the thugs down and whipped them quite a few times.

That is fine in their land. But in Spain it was illegal.

And that is all I'm getting at - different people have different customs.

It's not for me to agree or disagree with them.

Anyway, like I mentioned - I think Hazem is a great person (except for one minor detail which slightly annoyed me; during the whole rape scandal he refused to give DNA samples because he alleged he was innocent and was offended by the mere implication he may be guilty; that's fine, but morally he should have helped the police out, I think) and has great ethics and would be a good acquisition as a person, but not so much as a player.

I think you miss the point of my objection to Flatch's assumptions. He has said that that "riots" would follow El Masri to Parra if he came here because this element would follow him. This implies
a) El Masri in some way incites this behaviour or at the very least is incitful of it
b) That any "riotous" behaviour would automatically follow him as it is inevidable that it would
Oh, and BTW your statement about not being a racist but.... is a whole different debate

Geez Masri is one of the nicest blokes your could ever meet. Not like witt who was so fkn rude to half the fans at the castle hill signing. I dotn want to even describe it. But El masri is a great ambassodor of the game and i would love to see him play in the nrl because of this. We dotn have to many these days and there is no reaons that this should turn into a racism debarcle.

what is the go here.....it got nothing to do with him as a person.....its just that he is basically just a goal kicker and not much more?????

we will have plenty of goalkickers and plenty of better players who play wing a lot better, its nothing to do with ethics, morality or racism

just don't need that exact player...simple as that
