So let me get this straight, a former director with the boards blessing sets up a spread sheet listing tpas for players that were never paid.

Oh and any current person's still employed in the NRL knew nothing about it so can't be sanctioned.

That's it , seriously ?
Ummm no, they said a seperate company was set up to feed 3rd party deals through it, but didn’t get used (i think)

So the underlying reason for this was 3rd party agreements.

They are a sham, need more clarity around these deals for each club.

As one journo clarified tonight.

We did breach salary cap rules in 2016 with an undeclared amount, however it was insignificant and even allowing for it we would still have been under the CAP. If it was revealed in 2016 nothing would have come of it for the same reasons.

Oddly, I think it was Brent Read

I’d say we would almost welcome the reduced salary cap, means we have a reason to spend less.

It’s compulsory to spend about 95% of the cap.

We will see if Johnny Morris is as good a cap manager / recruiter as Flanno, as he was great at it.

No, it's not good. Pretty disruptive especially now some young guns are coming through. I'm really worried about losing Brailey now especially if reports about Parra are true. Other clubs can now come over the top and cherry pick whoever wants more money

Frenzy.

So Flanno was the cap manager?

The Herald can reveal that company was Connection 2 Sports, which is operated by the Sharks’ former sponsorship and commercial manager Luke Edmonds.

He was adamant when contacted on Friday he had not done anything wrong and was mystified that the Sharks had been heavily penalised — even if the club had accepted the NRL's penalties.

"At no stage did any director of the club give me direction or funding to set up my business," Edmonds said. "[They] certainly didn’t give me any direction to chase third-party deals. To this day, I’m not aware or privy to any player being owed third-party money. There has never been a transaction made from Connection 2 Sports to a player. Every introduction I’ve ever made has been approved and registered by the game.

"I went in to the NRL last week off my own bat. I was keen to go in there because I wanted to clear a few things up. Everyone knows there’s been plenty of chat around in relation to my business being involved.

"It’s funny: when I went to the NRL and explained how my business operates, they suggested I was 100 percent compliant. I know the rules inside out and back to front. I know exactly how it works."

The NSW five-eighth's new Panthers contract reportedly involves a third-party deal with Keno, but the governing body is ready to toss it in the bin.

"James Maloney actually got himself in trouble there ... he came out the other day and said he's waiting on the club to organise a third-party deal to come through," Kent told Fox Sports' NRL 360.

"It can't be club-driven, it has to be player driven.

"Unfortunately he's let the cat out of the bag so the NRL is now looking at it.

"It's a $200,000 Keno sponsorship, and I daresay the NRL is about to knock it back.

"That would make it very interesting to see what happens there."
