This was in the works since the tv line up for the round was announced. I found it amusing that Melbourne rugby league fans are supposed to worship 9 for screening this one match when they're screwed over the rest of the years.

I hope Penrith fans really turn up in numbers for what should be a really great match on a Sunday afternoon. I also hope Storm fans spread the word around and get people tuning into the match.

Most programs on digitals rate sub 200k. If Melbourne can pull in around 100k it would actually be a strong example of why the Southern States should get the live feed, considering that no other Sunday afternoon digital programming would even come close to matching that.

Also it's the best opportunity for Storm fans to show the club support is still strong.

Don't worry the Storm fans know its on live, the problem is we need a cam box for ratings!

Trust me: simply having people talking about the game and spreading the word via social networks (both real and online) has a real effect on ratings results. It always filters back down.

37k I think someone mentioned. Not a bad start, get NRL on every Sunday and they might build an audience. More of interest is how does that compare to what Ch9 normally show in that timeslot on a Sunday?

37k is not bad when you consider how badly ch9 had previously treated Melbourne RL viewers.. indeed, show it more often, when people are aware of it's timeslot, and you will build a better audience

besides.. the swans aren't too far off that figure despite being shown much more regularly

That's 37k without any promotion of the game.

True and Storm were only officially notified by the NRL Friday afternoon that the game was on live on Sunday and had to text their members to notify them to spread the news around.

While not great (and perfectly understandable) it gives the idiot fringe something to have a laugh at.

I'm pretty sure the Swans got 34k.

edit, sorry that's gold Coast Suns. Not so good for them. Only 75k in Brisbane.

Understandable due to nobody even knowing it was on but certainly not 'not bad' - its very bad. I think they dont count anything under 30k - thats the minimum they assume.

They need a regular showing and promotion to get anywhere near 'not bad' but 1 off with no promotion against poor peforming teams will probably hurt more than help as we have to negotiate a tv deal with these ratings.

They certainly do count under 30k. Non local AFL teams often get sub 10k into Sydney/Brisbane. So it is possible.

34k is terrible none the less. I do think it would rate better had it actually been advertised. However, most people with at least some interest in the Storm would have known it was on.

It was heavily promoted on the Thursday night Footy show, something a lot of RL fans in Melbourne would watch.

It wasn't "heavily promoted at all" on the AFL footy show at all, it was mentioned only once. That said i was surprised that they even brought it up at all.
