Yeah, you don't hear a lot of ex-players singing BS's preaises.

Or it could just be that BS was the best club coach Hindy has played under, and the one he learned the most from (which isn't really saying much given the other contenders)?

Interesting comments too in regards to the long range try and how he'd be the one pointing the lack of effort when they have their review session tomorrow.

I reckon in some aspects of coaching, Brian Smith is the best coach in the game. Probably one of the greatest of all time.

But four grand final losses and no wins over more than twenty years is long enough in the game to speak for itself.

Yep, very astute and talented in most areas of coaching, it would seem.

I'd like to see BS win a grand final one day, but can't see it happening from here.

Mark Tookey loved him...Josh Perry, on the other hand told me he couldn't stand being coached by Brian at Newcastle "Everything you have heard about him is true", Josh told me. He said Brian was fine while Joey was around the Knights, but as soon as Joey retired, the only communication he had with Brian was by text.
Toooks on the other hand told me Smithy was the best coach he had played under, and helped his game immensely. Tooks is currently coaching at SouthsLogan..

I remember when the team wasn't doing well in 2004, Jason Smith said a few words of praise about Brian Smith. He's a great coach, as proven by his success during different eras in the game.

I get the feeling Brian doesn't like lazy bastards - so if you are a lazy bastard, you probably won't end up liking him

as for his 4 GF losses - I would say every one of those his teams were unlikely to win - and yes, despite our run in 2001, Newcastle were on fire coming into the GF and had way too much for our young team

In defence of Brian Smith. It's f**king hard to win a a comp.

35% recruitment, 30% coaching and motivation and 35% luck with injuries, poor ref decisions etc (and that you don't play a team that cheats).

Judging BS by how many grand finals he's won alone is flawed. If you are a coach who takes on challenged clubs at the bottom of the ladder you'll hardly get the results that elevates you to "greatness".

Just on the video, does anyone else think it's strange that Hindy does not know why Anderson is there, what his involvement at the club will be etc ? It seems that all Hindy knows is what he read in the paper. It's a bit odd that the captain has not been briefed at the very least IMO.

Have you got something to back up the breakdown of those percentages please Gronk?

ME I got all my stats from my Magic 8 Ball. I got mine from the same shop where Kearney got the one he uses for his game plans and interchange selections.

yeah - it was REALLY poor that our backs on that side didn't chase after the break (sio, blair, kelly) ... a) burt is a turnstyle alot of the time, b) even if he is it takes a little time to get through a turnstyle

someone needs to get up em and make em realise that this is the kind of poor attitude/effort that is the difference between winning and losing games

i sometimes wonder if hindy knows more than he lets on .... i think he's generally a straight shooter, but you just get teh feeling he plays the media games a little more since he's been made capt

I hope Hindy gives them all a bake for that piss poor effort, even Morgan got closer and he came from the other side of the field. Morgan might not be the most talented but he certainly has a dig each week.
