I like my heroes humble. If the title accurately reflects Hodges' words, I agree with Saab.

Good to see him back to 2002/3 form.He needs to keep it up though and probably show in origin he has left his big stage demons behind.
Some good centres around .
I would go for a backline of Tahu,Gasnier,Cooper,King... would rather Gas miss out if he defects, so Hodges would be a good option. Also,Gidley works well with Johns and Tahu so he couldget the job done...I doubt it though.

I'd rather Justin didn't get picked so he could go into Origin with something to prove. ;-)

ive never been a fan of the fact that he would always have brain explosions. he would get up and push a player or something because he didnt like getting tackled because then his jersey got dirty or another one of his teammates will get tackled and he would run all the way over to push the oppoisition off.

And have you seen him do that even once in Broncos colours? He's cut the niggle out of his game but dispite being back with the Broncos for 2 years now everyone just seems to remember Hodges on who he was in that last season with the Roosters.

Not that I'm a fan of this latest comment from him, for his own sake he's best to just stay out of the debate as Ricky seems like the hard headed type where if you dare him to leave you out he'll take you up on it.

I'm speaking as a football and Australian fan, not as a Broncos one here...

But if Civoniceva isn't one starting prop, and Hodges isn't one starting centre... the selectors have NFI at all. Along with Locky, those are the only three Broncos players who deserve to be anywhere near it.

Anyone who says Hodges isn't the form centre, and Civoniceva isn't one of the form props, in this competition is absolutely kidding themselves.

If Hodgo said this whilst at the Roosters (when he was the best centre in the game in 02-03 before his injury) he would be criticised for being arrogant.

But instead he is being praised. Perception is an amazing thing.

Too right.

He is spot on, he is not just one of the form centres in the NRL....he is THE FORM CENTRE in the NRL! If he does not get picked I for sure will not be bothered going to the game!

Hodges should be in the team but I think he would be better served keeping his mouth shut and leaving the selection push for his ever happy coach.
Making comments like that can only hurt his relationship with the coach should he get picked

Centres should be Bell/Gasnier

And good to see that Hodges is a very modest person saying that he should be one of the first players picked for the team. And a hypocrit too. For many years as QLD coach and when he was Australian coach Bennett didn't pick players he didn't like, even though they deserved it. Hodges should come out and say that Bennett looked silly in not picking certain players, and Stuart shouldn't do the same(even though Hodges doesn't deserve it).

Hodges did deserve to be in the Australian team several years ago - the best centre in the game by a mile. But he wasn't picked.

Gasnier has done nothing compared to hodges! Razor I'd suggest you look at some of the tries gasnier lets in! Not saying he shouldn't be in the side as I love watching him but to say he is better than Hodges is a bit silly. Hodges will make him look very silly sometime this year. Bell- get off it, solid centre nothing more. Can score a try but that is about it. Cooper would be my 3rd pick.

My opinion is that it depends who plays 5/8, Lockyer or Barrett. If it is Barrett then you are better off sticking with Gasnier and Cooper who play with him every week and understand his game. If it is Lockyer then you would be looking at Gasnier/Hodges I think. Combinations aren't made after a weeks training camp and those type of things need to be considered, anyone who has played the game should know that.

I agree with Razor about Bennett. Who is he to criticise coaches who pick their favourites?

we also need to consider that Hodges hasn't really handled rep and pressure matches very well. Ricky will know that for sure and certain. Ricky may opt to let QLD see if he can play at a rep level before he picks him in his side.

Hodges may be playing good footy and settled down last year but you know what they say, a leopard doesn't change its spots. This is the Hodges of old and it was only a matter of time.

What if it's Thurston?

That might be why they don't go Thurston. If it is then you just have to go on form and that would be Hodges.

Lockyer has already been told he will be at the 6, so that should settle that.
I cant see Hodges being picked at all, even though he deserves it. Same for Thurston, he deserves on form alone, to be the 6, but he wont be because the player in front of him has been a stand out performer for Australia for the past 8 yrs, and especially over the past 3.

On form Inglis would be above Gasnier, but having 2 rookie centres is not a good idea. So you take the best centre on form this year - Bell. And add an experienced centre who is in good form. Hodges won't even make the QLD side - Bell & Inglis will be the 2 QLD centres.

You are obsessed with Inglis arent you?
It is becoming scary Razor.
Hodges will be picked for QLD, dont worry about that.

Oh the last line makes me laugh! That is like saying your lover, Joey, won't get picked for Australia! Plus I would love to know why Bell is the form centre of the year, and Ingliss has played ok but he is no chance! Hodges is the form centre and if you don't think that then perhaps you should watch broncos games!

Ah, did any of you actually bother reading the article?

This looks fairly cliched to me, and the headline is way out of context.

Hodges:

"At the end of the day, all I can do is keep playing good footy.

"
I'm not really worried. If I keep playing good footy then he'll probably be the one who looks silly, not me.
"If I don't make it, I don't make it and I'll look forward to playing for Queensland and proving them wrong."

"It's up to the selectors and Ricky who they pick," Hodges said. "If it's not me, it's his problem.
"I'll probably be a bit upset but I'll keep playing well for the Broncos - that's where my heart is."

Its amazing the amount of people who haven't read the article, and are presuming by the title. Hodges says he believe on form he is a chance on getting selected, but if he isn't, he would be upset but continue to play well for the broncos and hopefully QLD to prove the selectors wrong. So there is the cliche, "i just have to keep playing well".

Bennett said that he has been the form centre (which is not far from the truth at all) and that Australia hasn't had a permenant centre pair, so there is no reason it should start now.

The only "arrogance" there is saying that he has been playing well, and he has been.

And to the person who said 'a leopard doesn't change it's spots' is on the money. Hodges at Brisbane was always a good, solid, and quiet player. That changed at the roosters, but he is back to his old self at the broncos.
