hooray to Creagh

Now I'm no fanboy of Mary, but his decision to shift Creagh to prop was not just the correct one, it was probably the most important tactical change he has made since taking over. Not only has Creagh produced a consistently high quantity of workload in that role, but the quality of his work is also immense. His hit ups are hard & sharp, he wins the ruck 99% of the time to get quick play the balls, bending & even breaking the line, as well as popping the occasional offload. And in defence he is the 2nd best technique-wise behind JDB, but Creagh is a better wrestler. So important is Ben's presence that you can feel the lull when he leaves the field

Captain Blood is playing great at the moment, and is close to our best player for the year.

true.

now let's see if jowls can now teach bunji & the centres how to defend properly - especially in our 20.

Love shared. Every time the team start milling about flat footed he calls for the ball and runs hard and straight. Leaves no question as to which direction they should be going

I'm in.
I was worried earlier in the season that we were seeing the sun set on his career, and the last thing I wanted to see was a tap on the shoulder and a 'please move on' note delivered. I was also unconvinced that moving to the middle was in either his or the team's interests. Happy to be proven wrong.
Was noticeable last night that after the hip to the head he slowed up a bit, and it showed in the overall loss of go forward and intensity I felt. For those questioning his courage and his right to captaincy, take a look at his continued effort last night under what appeared to be some duress. He is a footballer through and through, and if leading by example defines a leader, he is one of those through and through as well.
He'll do me for an El Capitano until someone demands the right to rule themselves.

And what greggles said. Fmd, and there are people who wouldn't take Beau back if he was available. Benji needs a defensive minder, stat.

Agree problem is he needs help. We must target other front rowers in the off season recruitment plan to share the load otherwise he will be wornout prematurely.

As I've said in other threads the issue wasnt Benji in defense as he had to mark players inside which put Matai outside him both times. I cant explain why but our defense didnt shift and number up. We were out numbered on the 1st try 5 to 3 and the 2nd try 7 to 3 on that side. You simply can't defend that so you can't blame Benji, Duges or Gypsy for looking like gooses

It's good to see the Creagh love in here lately, even thru the darkest days he still went (comparatively) good. Now we seem to be coming out the other side and he's really shining.

Love ya Benny!

really impressed with Benny Creagh the last few weeks. He has been very strong, and led from the front.

Anyone questioning his toughness due to the Hodges incident can shove it,Benny always takes the hit up with speed and leads by example. We do miss him when he is benched.

Can't agree more. He's found his spot. He's been leading by example, and probably the most impactful prop we have right now. And we all know how desperately needed go forward about 5-6 weeks ago

Have never doubted capt blood's toughness. The incident with Hodges has never worried me because I believe you don't have to throw punches to prove that you are tough.Players like Petero,Lazarus,Price,Jarvis,Lang were tough, they were always prepared to take it up & no matter how hard they got hit they got to their feet & kept on doing it.Sure they may not have been feared like Boyd,Dallas,Kelly,Davidson,Tunks but they were tough & Creagh is like them.
Anyway Hodges or third man in Sam are imo no tougher than Creagh, even Nighty would be tougher than them.

Love the Big Red Truck.

He went off the boil for a little while but you stick with the champs and he is a champ.

A credit to the club for many reasons.

Also agree that he will have more years in him than some think.

Some doubting his captaincy were a bunch of Helen Lovejoys who put too much stock in humorous gifs.

This whole forum said Creagh and Merrin to prop and JDB to lock. Creagh finally shifts and is in career best form. JDB cracks into the 13 and starts playing really well. Merrin is only considered at prop at representative level. For all the angst, mixed messages and disparate opinions on this forum we are more often right than wrong when it comes to positional switches. f**k Mary. Let the forum decide!! I'd guess Hunt and Harrison would be out the door. Doust treats it like a union so let us have a vote ya bastards.

Huh?!?

Price moved Creagh to prop. He started playing there late last season and continued when this season begun. Mary was still coaching the Cutters at the time.

It is true that Price moved Creagh to prop last season, and Creagh was all set to play there this season. But after Souths steamrolled us in the Charity Shield, Soopercoach Price panicked and moved Creagh to the left side, allowing us to put another prop and allow for a bigger overall team (that prop was Hunt, lol). Creagh never played prop this year for us in the regular season, at least not on a regular basis, until Mary took over.
