the biggest problem with wagon in number 4 inside of grothe is that...
he wont pass to grothe! and its safe to say we want grothe with the ball alot

Actually, I believe Wags is quite a good ball player....however he was told not to pass much early on in the season and so he didn't - bag him all you like, but he is actually one of the few players who sticks to the game plan regularly....whether that gameplan is a good one is another issue.

good point

why would a coach tell a good ball player not to pass the ball

he really took the orders too literally in the Penrith game

im not bagging wags at all... im just going off the fact that he doesnt pass much..

if its just a 'gameplan' then surely it wont be a problem havin wags at centre, as maybe smith can think up a new gameplan for him  as the current one is working great for him

I like Burt on the wing, and I also like Petersen and Grothe there. And we have good depth too - Williams, Anderson... I don't rate Burt, Petersen or Grothe as a centre though.

Ash Graham showed more at centre (2003) than these guys, and if fit should get back to standard and is more than capable of being Tahu's partner this year.

I just don't like seeing Wags listed in any number smaller than 13... he goes OK there, don't fix what isn't broken.

I agree.

I don't think size is the problem with Burt. I think it's fitness and aggression.

He's smallish but quite strong. And he doesn't focus that aggression in his game. And if he doesn't focus that aggression, his strength is useless.

Spot on. All fantastic wingers & I would put Tahu there as well. Hope I am wrong there and he turns out to be an awesome centre. Time will tell. Lets hope its for the best.

One thing about Ash Graham is that he is a very good hole runner. But he lacks speed and he can't read the defence. Now people may blame his injury for his lack of speed but I had noticed before he got injured that he was not that quick. He is the type of player that could make a break but would get run down from behind.

In My opinion Graham and Burt should not be in 1st grade next year. We have some real talent in Kris Inu, Joel reddy, Anderson, Josh Davis (I have not seen him play but they say he is strong) or even Ben Smith (who I have my doubts about but he needs another chance). These players should be given a go in the trials.

Yup.

Give the young guns a go.

Definitely a winger, or fullback to cover for McKinnon...Burt is a liability defensively in the centres, and just doesn't have the physical presence for his body to stand up to being a centre fulltime IMO...Unless he's hit the gym HARDCORE in the off-season!

Good player on his day...but his best asset is his pace & elusiveness...and his goalkicking...best utilised on the wing..Then u have Wagon as your 'tough-nut' centre...complimented by the silky footwork & skills of Timana Tahu - Burt & Grothe on the wings....Mmm - Now u just gotta find yourselves a reliable & REGULAR halves combo to drive that potential V-8 of a backline around!!! ;-)

A good halfback is VERY often the diffenernce between 2 closely-matched teams after all!....

I can sort of understand what your saying as 2 of Luke's worst defensive games were against your club. it's obvious Folksy had enough brains to target him all match and most of us would agree with you regarding our halves combo as well.

I'm tipping Burty to be this year's Wade McKinnon; ie the player everybody bags out in the early rounds and he goes on to make them eat their words by half way through the season.

Let's remember last season was really the first he played as a centre - I thought he got much better as the season went on and there were a couple of games where he played brilliantly last season. With the off-season to prepare himself as a centre, work on his defensive positioning I think he's going to prove a lot of people wrong.

Good to see an outsiders agrees with what most of us have had to say

Our halves are warming up in the bullpen and are to soon be released into the NRL.

Very nicely put, mate.

But as it turns out we may have a decent halves combination.

People are speculating that Marsh may be in there, and Morris too.

And young Tim Smith is apprently impressing everyone.

18. Daniel Wagon

This would please me.

That's all very nice and well, but I know fo 17 other players that would not like that.

Like it or not, the players like Wagon and the contribution he makes to the team - as evidenced by the fact he won the Players' Player Award.

He may be well liked but that shouldn't be the only reason that he remains in the top 17. He needs to show that he can contribute something alittle more to the team than that.
