How many Manlee fans will be at ANZ stadium next week?

I don't see why the Eagles get so much shyt about crowd numbers. Year on yar attendance at Brookvlle is not a milliion miles off the Sydney club average. Not great but not at all embarrassing.

Because most Sydney clubs haven't seen near that sort of success (in fact many have sucked for years). Do you think they would be near any of the other Sydney teams if they had the same success Manly had in the last 5 years?

Edit: I'm not singling them out either, as mentioned you can apply the same logic for the storm.

People always bring up the "but what about when their team is shit?" argument. Manly have played in multiple GFs in every decade sice the 70s. History suggests long periods of Parra/Souffs style ineptitude are not just around the corner as everyone likes to think.

That's not what i was saying. I'm not assuming Manly will ever be crap but that's not relevant. My point was simply that if other sydney teams had near that level of success they would blow Manlys crowds out of the water. Hell it wouldn't event take near that level of success for that to be true (many are there now).

You have to put it into perspective though, look at the area and population size of the region covered by Parramatta or the Bulldogs and compare that with the Northern Beaches. Yes there are plenty of fans outside those areas that support those teams but by starting with a smaller population being represented it makes sense that crowds are going to be smaller. The only time Manly's crowds have really slumped is around the turn of the century during the Northern Eagles debacle. Perhaps it just shows that there are less bandwagon/fairweather Manly fans while Parra clearly have a massive bandwagon supporter base that just switch off when their team is poor.

Oh please. Easy to ignore the fact that you have had a catchment area of about a million people for almost 15 years now with the Bears gone.

Im going to give the Manly fans out there a bit of slack and say that the primary reason why crowds are below par is because of the poor condition of Brookvale.

As for the lack of Manly fans that travel, it's hard to get almost anywhere in Sydney. Manly fans are just a bit too precious to travel.

This thread strikes me as pretty dumb - how about we just wait and see what happens tonight? The game starts in around 9 hours - alot of you morons are blowing your load far too early.

Go Manly.

Yeah, good logic. Bears fans that have hated Manly their whole lives are suddenly going to get behind their most hated team. That is the stupidest argument people raise. If it was the other way around you wouldn't have ever got a red and black jersey on me, or most Manly fans. Add to that Bears fans are still holding out hope that their team is reincarnated on the Central Coast.

What is even funnier is the fact Canberra's home crowd over a season has only been bigger than Manly 5 times. In 27 seasons, 5 seasons with a better home crowd. One of those was by an average of 30 more.

If Manly are bagged for not travelling, then surely Canberra must be the most fair weathered supporters in the league. Leaving even the Roosters for dead in this category.

Leave the roosters out of it you turd

Considering that:

- Brookvale is far from other club districts
- Lack of train access to Brookvale
- Lack of parking around Brookvale
- Can be hell to drive north to northern beaches (Spit bridge etc).

they may be a Sydney team but can pretty much be considered as an Illawarra or Newcastle type setup, ie. opposition fans will always be in short supply. As such crowds will be highly correlated with form.

Along with minimal facilities at Brookvale this is surely the main factor for seemingly average crowds which will never rise without addressing these issues. Brookvale can be done up, the other problems have no solution. Manly crowds at Brookvale are pretty much capped for good, other Sydney teams have much more room to grow.

We've averaged 18k in the 1970's. 16k or nearabouts 20 years ago. and that was with a smaller population. It's just a matter of being able to provide the areas fans with a better match day experience. What we offer, when you consider the Beaches is a mixed area when it comes to sports, is quite sh*t (besides the actual product) compared to what's on offer at a Waratahs match at the SFS or a Swans game at the SCG. Improve that and we'd probably be able to increase crowds by 50%.

This requires a better home ground and an advertising campaign that doesn't purely consist of rampant parochialism however...The whole Peninsula thing is great for locals who've been here forever but for newcomers it harks back to the whole 1970's surfer attitude of 'If you're form past the spit you're a f*cking Westie' attitude. Hardly inviting for those not bought in.

It's looking like a subpar crowd so far, majority Dogs. FFS Manly fans, turn up and cheer your champions on. You aren't going to fall off the face of the earth if you go beyond Brookie. World isn't flat ya know!
