Cut and dried? Have you ever seen the penakty for such an offence taken to directly in front of the posts before? Yeah me neither. So case closed. Souths fans iq is equal to or less than teeth volume.

So after almost a week of this being discussed ad nauseum you still don't know the rule eh?
Explains a bit.

Did you know the rule that the kick was to be taken in front of the posts at the time of the offence? Yeah I thought as much.

yes.

in general play if a foul is performed on the kicker, the penalty is awarded where the ball lands..

so if it's a kick at goal............

Yep. I think most of us were expecting this. Either way the game is over, might be some new topics to talk about after this weekend.

No, but the ref did. Hence CUT AND DRIED imbo. Yet you're still arguing it wasn't.
Need proof?

It was a penakty in front of the posts, cut and dried. That's the rule. I know that now because I'm able to learn.

Not only that, there is a precedent where this exact situation has happened before which was shown on NRL360 last night. It's an uncommon occurrence but just because it doesn't happen every weekend doesn't mean the rule doesn't exist.

Gerard Sutton on the footy show tonight
Very impressed with the way his handled the interview and explained himself on the show tonight, I bag refs as much as the next person but have come away with some new found respect for refs after that interview and seeing how he handles his job

x2. When it first happened I was so adamant that he had made the wrong decision. Boy, how wrong was I. He was in a lose-lose situation with whatever call he made but he got it right. As for the Footy Show, seeing the human side of a referee was strange. Good on him for getting on the show and giving his side of the story. People seem to cry out for referee post-match interviews, well he just gave the next closest thing and excelled.
I was impressed with Brett Finch firing up at the Dog fans in the studio audience for being disrespectful. Doggy fans need to get over this one. They weren't robbed by the ref.

Now on to more pressing matters. If I wear a referee jersey to ANZ stadium on the weekend will I make it out alive?

We need to going the other way imo, take the mics off refs etc.

What would they say in press conference?

Reporter "Why did you award that a try when it looks like he dropped it" Ref "because I thought it was try".

I get frustrated by the refs as much as anyone by hammering them over every poor decision has got us no where.

Totally agree. For the record, I wasn't arguing for the press-conferences, just stating that the idea gets thrown around a lot.

I have heard very few actually heaping praise on the refs for being brave enough to get the decision right and knowing the rules so well. Shows how we just like to be negative to them, even when they are right!

ps even on NRL360 they were whinging about refs not getting decisions right, then whinging about the video ref being used too much to ensure the decision is right. Which is it, you cant have it both ways!

In my opinion that is what has created much of the problems with refereeing, the media. They harp on about mistakes time, after time, after time. Compared to many other sports both here and overseas, the rugby league media spend more time carrying on about bad decisions than their counterparts in other sports.
